- Research: Develop and lead a research program focused on soil science, with emphasis areas tailored to the candidate’s expertise. Potential topics may include:
- Assessing soil properties using geospatial techniques at field, landscape, or regional scales
- Using pedologic and/or hydrologic models to predict climate change impacts on soils
- Studying wetland soil function at landscape scale
- Improving waste disposal system effectiveness in challenging soils
- Teaching: Teach an upper-level undergraduate or graduate course in soil science, tailored to expertise, with potential topics such as hydropedology, wetland soils, or GIS applications. Training on soil-landscape relationships and soil interpretations for land use decisions is desirable. Online instruction can be used to fulfill part of the teaching requirements.
- Extension/Outreach: Activities should also support soil interpretations for land use. Opportunities include developing materials to support various stakeholder groups making decisions about rural and urban land use in a changing climate and participating in the on-site waste training program. Outreach opportunities also include participation in youth training activities such as FFA land judging and Envirothon.

The selected candidate will lead a comprehensive research, teaching, and extension program, integrating pedologic and hydropedologic principles with modern methodologies to address contemporary issues in soil science and land use.
