What to Expect (Job Responsibilities):
- Supervise fieldwork including archaeological survey, testing, and data recovery while ensuring quality and completeness of collected data
- Conduct data QA/QC, organization, and tracking; collect field GPS data using tablets with ESRI Field Maps
- Prepare for fieldwork by conducting preliminary research and ensuring necessary resources are available
- Train less experienced field crew in identifying historic and prehistoric artifacts and features
- Communicate effectively with Team Leads, Principal Investigators, and Project Managers regarding project progress
What is Required (Qualifications):
- Bachelor's degree in Archaeology, Anthropology, or a closely related field
- At least 12 months of professionally supervised experience with increasing responsibility leading to duties as a field director
- Minimum of three (3) years of experience as a field archaeologist in the Pacific Northwest
- Ability to travel for fieldwork sessions lasting 8 to 10 days and be in the field approximately 50% of the month
- Valid Driver's License with an acceptable driving record and ability to operate a 4WD vehicle on rugged roads
How to Stand Out (Preferred Qualifications):
- Master's degree in Archaeology, Anthropology, or a related field
- Experience writing technical archaeology reports to SHPO standards
- Knowledge of federal and state preservation laws and regulations
- CPR and First Aid certified
- Candidates who meet the Secretary of the Interior's Professional Qualifications Standards in archaeology
