      Job summary

      We are seeking to appoint a motivated and forward-thinking clinician who can work flexibly and is committed to the success and delivery of the SEND MHST. The post will be full time, with regular travel to MHST schools across Hertfordshire and West Essex. The MHST are open to flexible working and therefore part time / job share would be considered. We would also welcome applications from internal candidates working in the post as a secondment opportunity.

      The MHST work in collaboration with schools to increase and improve emotional and mental health provision within education settings for 5-18 year old's. The Assistant Psychologist will be working within a successful SEND specific MHST.

      The MHSTs will deliver evidence based interventions supporting emotional wellbeing including group interventions, individual interventions, consultation and training and incorporates full assessments of care needs and risk assessments. The ultimate aim of the MHST is to support a whole school approach to develop, build and support emotional well-being.

      Main duties of the job

      To provide assessment and intervention within MHST under the supervision of a qualified clinician. This could include undertaking psychological assessment either independently or jointly with members of the service and/or professionals from other services, such as the application of psychological tests, self-report measures, rating scales, direct and indirect structured observation and semi-structured interviews with CYPs, family members, carers and professionals involved in the CYP's care.

      To work independently with families and young people according to clinical needs and/or plan agreed with the other professionals involved in the CYP's care and within the overall framework of MHST' policies and procedures.

      To assist in the formulation and implementation of plans for the formal psychological treatment and/or management of a CYP's presenting difficulties; based upon an appropriate conceptual framework of the CYP's difficulties and employing methods based upon evidence of efficacy, across the full range of care settings, with the support and guidance from a qualified clinician.

      To take into account issues of parental responsibility when undertaking assessment/consultation/intervention with children and young people.

      To produce reports and summaries under supervision and to maintain the highest standards of clinical record keeping and report writing. This should always being accordance with professional codes of practice.

      Qualifications and Training

      Essential

      • An upper second class honours degree or higher in psychology
      • Entitlement to graduate membership of the British Psychological Society.

      Desirable

      • Training in Autism Spectrum Disorder

      Experience and Knowledge

      Essential

      • Experience as an Assistant Psychologist or Honorary Assistant Psychologist
      • Experience of working with people with Autism Spectrum Disorder.
      • Experience of working with individuals who are non-verbal or who have significant communication difficulties.
      • An ability to apply existing psychological knowledge to caseload population.

      Desirable

      • Experience of multi-disciplinary team working.
      • Experience of undertaking clinical audit.

      • Experience of setting up databases/spreadsheets in order to monitor clinical outcomes with service users
