      Job Description:

      Iowa State University Athletics is seeking applicants for an Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach to support assigned NCAA Division I Olympic sports. The initial sport assignment will be Men’s Wrestling, with sport assignments subject to change as deemed necessary by Administration.

      Examples of what you’ll do:

      • Develop and implement comprehensive athletic development programs for assigned sports that will help ISU student-athletes minimize injury risk, maximize athletic performance, and optimize team success
      • Teach and demonstrate proper exercise technique, ensuring safety and adapting workouts based on each student-athlete’s needs and health status
      • Educate and motivate student-athletes
      • Test, assess, and monitor student-athletes for physical abilities and capacities (movement quality, mobility, strength, power, speed, agility, fitness)
      • Support coaching staffs by managing testing and performance technology data, preparing performance reports, and translating these data
      • Regularly and effectively communicate and collaborate with health, performance, and support staff (e.g. Sports Medicine, Sports Nutrition, Mental Health), along with coaches and administrators
      • Build trusting relationships with the head coaches and student-athletes to develop proactive solutions to their requests/needs
      • Assist in management, safety, and sanitation of assigned weight room(s)
      • Contribute to the overall needs of the Olympic Strength and Conditioning Department, providing coverage for other sports and with additional duties as assigned
      • Contribute to and enhance a competitive athletic experience while maintaining an environment conducive to the welfare and academic success of the student-athletes
      • Establish and maintain positive and effective interactions with students, colleagues, university staff and administrators, alumni, media, and the public
      • Commitment to and responsibility for adhering to all rules and regulations of the University, Big 12 Conference, and NCAA.

      The ideal candidate will have solid technical knowledge related in all areas of strength and conditioning; strong organization, analytical, and decision-making skills; and exceptional teaching, motivational, and communication skills. Candidates are expected to be committed to multiculturalism and working with a diverse student body. Must be available and flexible to work evenings and/or weekends, extended hours, and to travel with a team as requested.

      Candidates will be required to have and maintain current certification through a nationally accredited strength and conditioning certification program in accordance with NCAA requirements.

      Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. on an ongoing basis without sponsorship.

      Required Qualifications

      Bachelor’s degree.

      Experience coaching strength and conditioning for a collegiate, professional, or elite-level athletics program.

      Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) through the NSCA or Strength and Conditioning Coach Certified (SCCC) through the CSCCa.

      CPR/AED and First Aid certified.

      Preferred Qualifications

      Experience as an athlete or coach with an NCAA DI, Regional Training Center, or Olympic Wrestling program.

      Master’s degree in exercise science, kinesiology, sports performance or a related field.
