Job Description

- Assists Superintendent in carrying out policies, rules and regulations.
- Serves as full line supervisor.
- Reviews data to assist and confer with the Superintendent in establishing overall institution policies, facility budget preparation.
- Monitors special programs.
- Attends administrative staff meetings and conferences.
- Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
- Requires a bachelor's or advanced degree from an accredited college or university with a specialization in: criminal justice, education, psychology, social work or a closely related social science.
- Requires four (4) years of management experience in juvenile justice settings with two (2) years of responsibility for facility management.
- Prefers thorough knowledge of public and business administration, principles, and practices.
- Prefers thorough knowledge of Juvenile Justice agency programming, standards of care and national standards related to conditions of confinement and institutional operations, service objectives and management systems.
- Prefers thorough knowledge of employee management and labor relations.
- Requires a valid and appropriate driver's license and the ability to travel statewide.
- Requires the ability to pass the IDOC/IDJJ background check.
- Requires the ability to pass a drug screen. The use of unauthorized drugs by an employee, regardless of the position held, is prohibited.
- Requires the ability to comply with all local and federal health requirements and/or mandates.

Position Overview
The Assistant Superintendent of Programs is responsible for initiating and implementing new methods and procedures to enhance the efficiencies of programs for youth housed at the Illinois Youth Center – Pere Marquette, located in Grafton, Illinois. The position also monitors the daily functions of the facility to ensure orderly operations of Program areas and acts as Chief Administrative Officer in the absence of the Superintendent. The position supervises a team of program managers, staff and nurses. This position would be an excellent fit for someone with a passion for criminal justice reform and rehabilitation. Over 900 staff members from across various departments—security, programming, education, mental health, and more—collaborate with the understanding that youth are physically, emotionally, and cognitively different from adults. The department provides extensive services to young people through a developmental, treatment-focused model of care that builds youth resiliency, engages families, and promotes community safety at the five youth facilities it operates across the state. IDJJ serves and houses approximately 150 youth and is responsible for approximately 500 youth on Aftercare in various Illinois’ communities.
