      Are you as excited as we are when we talk about the distribution of bulk liquids operated by the world’s largest and most sophisticated fleet of chemical and parcel tankers, with over 70 deep-sea ships?

      As the Assistant Superintendent assigned to specific vessels, you will manage the daily operations of the Stolt Tankers Fleet. You will collaborate with and receive training from Superintendents who oversee all necessary activities to ensure our ships are fully operational. Your strong technical expertise enables you to understand the ships comprehensively, from the bridge down.

      Stolt Tankers a division of Stolt-Nielsen Limited (SNL), is the specialist in transporting bulk liquids: Chemicals, clean petroleum, gases, vegetable oils, biofuels and oleochemicals. We are continuously seeking how we can add value for our customers.

      What you will be doing

      After completing your internal training, you will supervise, control, and coordinate all matters for a group of allocated vessels (no more than two). As our assistant superintendent, you will ensure that we meet all standards and compliances. You understand what is required when we discuss documentation, safety, crewing, and cargo. You will also be involved in both regular and last-minute dry-docking projects, initially as an observer and later independently.

      You know how to communicate with all ranks on our ships and motivate them to provide insights into how they perform their jobs. A diverse set of communication skills is essential for success in this position. You will be based in our Rotterdam office, travel regularly to our ships globally.

      Responsibilities

      This role requires a solid understanding of maritime operations, strong communication skills, and the ability to manage different challenges.

      • Act as a liaison between the ship’s crew and the company’s management. Ensure effective communication of operational requirements and changes to all relevant parties.
      • Monitor staff performance, providing feedback and coaching to enhance their capabilities.
      • Manage responses to any accidents or emergencies involving company vessels or cargoes (as required).
      • Prepare reports on incidents and propose improvements to prevent future occurrences.
      • Work towards resolving issues efficiently to minimize financial losses and maintain company reputation.
      • Assist in investigating, reporting, and following up on claims related to cargo (as required), equipment damage, or personnel incidents.
      • Ensure the smooth execution of the Planned Maintenance System for the ships in the fleet, aiming to optimize maintenance routines and minimize downtime.
      • Oversee the maintenance and repair of vessels to ensure they meet all safety and operational standards.
      • Conduct ship inspections under the guidance of a superintendent to ensure compliance with regulatory and company standards.
      • Analyze data to identify trends, efficiencies, and areas needing attention, helping inform management decisions.
      • Identify potential areas of improvement and report back to superintendents and management.

      Qualifications

      • Proven experience in a similar role, such as Assistant Superintendent or recent service as a Second Engineer on a chemical tanker.
      • Prior seafaring experience, ideally on chemical tankers, to understand operational nuances.
      • Naval architecture/marine/mechanical engineering, experience can be considered as alternative to seagoign experience.
      • Fluency in English, with excellent verbal and written communication skills.
      • Strong interpersonal skills, with a natural ability to engage and communicate effectively with diverse teams.
      • Demonstrate a strong understanding of the rules and regulations in various areas regarding chemical tanker.
      • Analytical skills will be considered as a plus.

      • We offer the possibility to partially work remote and from our Rotterdam office located in the historic Veerhaven area.
