      Description

      The chosen candidate will partner with Pediatric Research Leadership leading postdoctoral and early career faculty focused efforts within a newly established program designed to enhance outreach and encourage students and other trainees to consider and prepare for careers in child health research and pediatric medicine, including broadening career opportunities for underrepresented minority groups and other marginalized communities. This position will report up through the Department of Pediatrics Vice Chairs for Research and will actively partner with feeder programs including medical residency and fellowship training programs, the Emory Office of Postdoctoral and Mentored Training Education, and institutional career development programs aimed at early career faculty to design and implement strategies fostering equity in training for child health focused, research specific careers.KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

      • Directs the strategic planning, development, and implementation of program.
      • Collaborates with representatives from private, government, and international agencies.
      • Represents the program in various national and international fora.
      • Conducts research, designs new initiatives, writes publishable articles and papers, collaborates with others, and designs programs.
      • May supervise staff.
      • Performs other related duties as required.

      ADDITIONAL JOB DETAILS:The specific scope of this position and related responsibilities include:

      • Lead efforts to execute strategic plans aimed at postdoctoral (PhD and MD) learners to create a new overarching Pathway Planning Program aimed at increasing diversity and inclusion in pediatric research career pathways, ensuring alignment with the goals and values of Emory University, partner institutions, and the NIH.
      • Partnership Development: Collaborate to establish and maintain strong partnerships with other Physician Scientist Training Programs at Emory as well as other Pediatric Scientist Training Programs nationally. Lead the department as a representative on the National Pediatric Scientist Development Working Group.
      • Academic Community Outreach: Assist in serving as an advocate for equitable access to opportunities in pediatric research and medicine for post-doctoral learners, both internally within Emory University and externally within the broader academic and research communities. Work to engage with local communities, organizations, and professional networks to raise awareness of pediatric research career opportunities and promote diversity and inclusion within the field, with a specific focus on recruitment of postdoctoral trainees with diverse backgrounds.
      • Recruitment and Retention Assistance: Assist in leading efforts to recruit and support post doctoral trainees and early career faculty to increase exposure to pediatric medicine and reduce barriers to entering and succeeding into child health related research careers, including for underrepresented minority individuals and other marginalized communities, thereby contributing to the development of a supportive and inclusive environment conducive to success.
      • Manage the Pediatric Residency Investigative Scholars at Emory Program, including related training grants, and internal award programs. Direct the development and strategic planning for PRISE in coordination with the PRISE Co-Directors and the Director of the Pediatrics Residency Program. Manage recruitment efforts for the PRISE Program. Develop, implement, and assess PRISE curriculum. Track the research outcomes of pediatrics residents within PRISE. Lead monthly PRISE Executive Committee meetings and monthly curriculum sessions. Represent PRISE at national meetings and conferences. Conduct educational research and scholarship related to PRISE and publish related manuscripts. Write and collaborate on grants related to pediatric scientist development, specifically as needed for curriculum development and evaluation components. Create annual reports. Oversee research events for residency program, including Resident Research Day. Coordinate with financial analysts related to approved resident and fellow awards. Coordinate with residency program related to PRISE budget. Monitor PRISE resident expenditures.
      • Develop and deliver the educational curriculum and evaluation plans for two formal postdoctoral training and career development awards. (NHLBI R38 and NICHD K12)
      • Provide grant writing and research communications training and assistance to postdoctoral researchers dedicated to careers in child health science
      • Data Analysis and Reporting Assistance: Collaborate on collecting, analyzing, and reporting data related to diversity and inclusion efforts for post-doctoral recruits utilizing metrics to track progress and identify areas for improvement, with a specific focus on underrepresented minority groups and other marginalized communities.

      MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

      • Bachelor's degree in field related to specific program as indicated and five years program related experience, or equivalent combination of experience, education, and training.
      • Master's degree preferred.

      PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

      • Health science research experience.
      • PhD in health science or humanities-related discipline preferred.

      NOTE: This role will be granted the opportunity to work from home regularly but must be able to commute to Emory University location as needed and at times, on short notice. Emory reserves the right to change this status with notice to employee.
