      Team & Job Overview

      EDC’s Mid-Market Growth Business (MMGB) is seeking a candidate with a strong financial background and a demonstrated interest in venture capital and/or growth equity investing to join our group. The Associate role will involve: conducting research, assisting with transaction due diligence, building complex financial models, assisting with fair market valuation, supporting value creation activities and utilizing EDC’s software tools for transaction and relationship management.

      Discipline Summary

      • Assists Investment Managers/Partners with the evaluation, conducting due diligence, drafting of investment memos and monitoring venture capital and growth equity investments through direct investing or co-investing.
      • Performs market research and data analysis to support thematic investment thesis development.
      • Supports the team with portfolio monitoring, management and fair market valuation assessments.
      • Assists Operating Partners with value creation initiatives
      • Develops and maintains detailed financial models.
      • Ensures discipline around data integrity.

      Key Responsibilities

      • Due diligence – Supports senior team members with specific elements of diligence and investment proposals by conducting research and analysis of highly complex and/or high-risk transactions.
      • Financial Models - Build customized excel financial models for valuation, risk assessment and returns profiling purposes.
      • Transaction Teamwork - Work collaboratively within a team of venture capital specialists and the broader MMGB Customer Delivery Teams.
      • Legal Documentation – Develop familiarity with term sheet provisions and investment legal documentation.
      • Portfolio Monitoring – Assists the team with monitoring the performance of a portfolio of investments and prepares fair market valuation assessments.
      • Contributes to various reporting requirements for the MMGB Program.
      • Supports value creation initiatives.

      Screening Criteria

      • Recently completed an Undergraduate Degree in Business Administration, with a concentration in Finance or Accounting.
      • 0-3 years of relevant work experience in venture capital, private equity or related fields, such as investment banking or corporate development.
      • Experience in financial services
      • Demonstrated outstanding financial modeling skills

      Assets

      • Enrollment in or completion of a financial modeling designation (ex. Corporate Finance Institute, Financial Modeling Institute, or other relevant provider).
      • Work experience in venture capital, private equity, investment banking, corporate development, or related consulting field.
      • Bilingualism in both official languages (English and French) would be considered an asset.

      Compensation Details:

      • Investments 16: Salaries typically range from $90,000 to $105,000 annually, based on qualifications and experiences, plus a performance-based incentive.

      Location

      • Export Development Canada is a hybrid work environment.
      • This role may be performed from EDC’s headquarters in Ottawa, or from the Community Hub in Montreal or Toronto.
