      The Team

      Global Banking and Markets Engineering (GBME) is the fast-moving, award-winning technology engine that powers Scotiabank’s Corporate, Investment Banking, and Capital Markets businesses.

      The Role

      As a Associate Software Engineer of the Foreign Exchange Technology Development Team, you will participate in all of software delivery life cycle to deliver high demand services for the bank’s trading platforms to support the foreign exchange business.

      The incumbent will design, create, implement, and maintain software, applications, and other computer systems. The incumbent typically collaborates with project managers and other software developers to develop software based on given requirements. Someone in this role should have strong problem solving skills, allowing them to perform updates and enhancements on current systems, and find solutions for systems that may not be working properly. The incumbent will also create operational manuals and documentations for the software developed.

      Design of stable, flexible and scalable solutions, root cause problem solving and proactively identifying gaps.

      Implementing a mindset to ensure development starndards in unit testing, code coverage and code quality are maintained at a high standard.

      Responsibilities:

      • Design, development, coding, testing and debugging of applications.
      • Perform root cause analysis to support production issues.
      • Maintain high standards of software quality by demostrating good practices and habits.
      • Prepare operational manuals and documentations for new design/development to share with team members and other affected parties.
      • Work with Scotiabank infrastructure teams to maintain and support infrastructure and services under management
      • Lead root cause analysis to in-scope systems, identify improvements, and drive to implementation.
      • Develop operational plans, processes, and procedures to improve service delivery and resiliency

      Qualifications

      • Have 2-3 years of progressive technical working experience in application programming, system analysis, design, unit testing and debugging
      • Technical working experience in an Agile environment
      • Have technical working experience with SOAP and RESTful Web Services, Java (Spring, Spring Boot), Web Development (Angular/JavaScript), Unit Testing (Junit, Jest), Oracle/Postgres Database, Operating Systems (Linux Redhat, Windows), Tools (Jira, Confluence, Artifactory, BitBucket, SonarQube, GIT).
      • Have working experience in the use of Jenkins or similar tool(s) for building Continuous Integration/Continuous Delivery (CI/CD) pipelines
      • Be proficient in Continuous Integration and Delivery (CI/CD) pipelines (e.g., Jira, Jenkins, Gradle, Bitbucket, Artifactory etc.).
      • Must have excellent communication (verbal/written) skills in English in order to communicate efficiently and effectively with the different stakeholders
