      JOB TITLE:

      Assistant Farm Manager

      JOB PURPOSE:

      Assist in livestock management and farming practices associated with a University Agricultural Research Center; manage, supervise and perform production and research livestock and farming duties.

      This position involves on-call status.

      This position has been deemed essential as addressed in the University of Wyoming’s Employee Handbook . Employees in essential positions may be required to work during emergency closures and winter closure based on the nature of their job duties and the reasons for the closure.

      ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

      • Responsibility for livestock research feedlot. Duties include daily feeding, health checks, feedlot maintenance, as well as cattle management of university and producer-owned animals.
      • Manage production cow-calf herd including calving, branding, grazing management, processing and vaccination, and overall herd health.
      • Daily use of feed management software and data entry.
      • Oversee testing facility that utilizes VyTelle feed intake nodes, monitoring and maintaining feeding data. Computer fluency a must.
      • Detailed, computer-based record keeping including all animal health records, daily feeding records, cattle inventory, and feed and hay inventory records.
      • General care and treatment of animals including branding, castrating, veterinary care, and dehorning cattle..
      • Manage, supervise and participate in the ground preparation, irrigation, fertilization, application of chemicals, harvesting of hay and other production crops.
      • Work as liaison with feed mills, substations and supply companies.
      • Operate, maintain and repair equipment used in agriculture and farming.
      • Assist faculty in conducting research and data collection.
      • Estimate the needs for the general livestock and farming operations at SAREC.

      SUPPLEMENTAL FUNCTIONS:

      • Assist in building maintenance, repair and remodeling as necessary.
      • Assist in training and supervision of existing farm crew and part-time staff.
      • Act as Farm Manager in Farm Manager's absence.
      • Travel to other centers to transport and test livestock and collect data.
      • Work at other livestock units as needed.
      • Assist and participate in center field days, expositions, and other special events as needed.

      REMOTE WORK ELIGIBILITY:

      This position provides vital support to campus customers and requires the successful candidate be available to work on campus.

      The successful candidate must be eligible to work in the United States. Sponsorship for H1-B work authorization or work visa is not available for this position.

      MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

      Education: Bachelor’s degree in Ag-Related field, or an equivalent combination of experience.

      Experience: 2 years work-related experience

      Required licensure, certification, registration or other requirements:

      • Valid driver's license with a motor vehicle record (MVR) compliant with the University Vehicle Use Policy .
      • CDL or willingness to attain
      • Valid Wyoming Commercial Pesticide Applicator's license or willingness to attain
      • BQA certification

      Torrington is a much larger town with over 6500 people. It is also the county seat of Goshen County. Heavily rooted in Agriculture, rich history surrounds this town on all sides.
