      Job summary

      The successful post holder will be involved in the day-to-day operation and maintenance of Electrical services, plant and equipment within all Trust and within their remit, including some installation work. They will be part of a team of Maintenance Assistants carrying out planned and unplanned maintenance duties as directed by the Electrical Supervisor and Team leader.

      Main duties of the job

      To undertake all work activities as requested by the Electrical Supervisor/Estates Officer.

      To work in accordance with Trust safety rules and procedures at all times.

      To actively participate in the operation of facilities labour control scheme, by completion of all paperwork and reports as required by the scheme.

      Carry out all work on equipment as required by the Health & Safety at Work Act 1974, COSHH Regulations, Building and Construction Regulations and the Trust's Safety Policy.

      To work overtime to carry out repairs/maintenance not possible during normal hours.

      To liaise with the Electrical Supervisor regarding plant or equipment failures, or deviations to regulations, and to request the supply of goods and/or services as necessary.

      At all times when on duty or on call, to carry Trust communication devices such as mobile telephones, two-way radios, or pagers to facilitate immediate response to emergencies.

      Perform functional testing of portable and fixed appliances, engineering plant, lighting, fire detection and nurse call systems.

      Use of calibrated precision test and measuring instrumentation to establish plant and equipment operating parameters and records results of same on test certificates.

      Uses all relevant diagnostic, and hand tools within safety guidelines as necessary for the completion of works.

      Ensure that all accidents, incidents, near misses, damages and irregularities are documented and reported to a manager in accordance with Trust policy.

      Qualifications

      Essential

      • City & Guilds 2365 Level 2 Electrical Diploma.
      • Or,
      • An equivalent qualification such as NVQ Level 2 in a relevant Electrical Engineering or Building Services Engineering discipline.
      • Or,
      • BTEC/ONC in Electrical Engineering or Building Services Engineering.

      Desirable

      • City & Guilds 2365 Level 3 Electrical Diploma.
      • Bs7671 18th Edition regs
      • Pat testing Qualifications.

      Experience

      Essential

      • Completion of 2 years minimum experience in Electrical Engineering, equipment or a background of Building services installation, alteration, maintenance, or fault finding.

      Desirable

      • Previous experience of working in an acute Hospital environment or similar demanding role.

      Additional Criteria

      Essential

      • Reasonably clear and effective in verbal and written communications.
      • Capable working to deadlines.
      • Adaptable to change.
      • Experience of working in electrical engineering or building services installation, alteration, maintenance or fault finding.
      • Previous electrical knowledge to enable basic isolation of electrical circuits.
      • Previous electrical experience in a similar/ same role.
      • Basic knowledge in electrical principles.
      • Knowledge of Health and Safety rules/ legislation.
      • Available for undertaking overtime.
      • Physically demanding role requiring manual handling of loads, extremes of temperature and the ability to work at heights or in confined spaces.
      • Appreciation of his/her own limitations
      • Good Verbal and written communication skills.
      • Work effectively as a team member.
      • Ability to cover other functions for short periods of time (stores)
      • Ability to work to deadlines.
      • IT skills
