      Bioinformatics Lead

      Department:

      FAES | Molecular and Cellular Imaging Lab

      Reporting to the Associate Dean for Research and Graduate Education, the individual will oversee, coordinate and help execute activities in the areas of applied bioinformatics (here defined broadly as the analysis and interpretation of
      omics technology data) and microscopy at the Molecular and Cellular Imaging Center (MCIC) core facility. Duties include:


      Research

      • In collaboration with faculty, graduate students, and postdocs, independently leads and conducts with a bioinformatics component, including participation in publications and grant writing. May occasionally support other research initiatives upon request.
      • Serve as a knowledge resource for omics research and data analysis.
      • Initiate steps to develop, implement, and document standardized, best-practice pipelines for a variety of omics data analyses.

      Teaching

      • Help organize and teach formal graduate-level courses, workshops, and related activities to improve bioinformatics and coding skills among students and faculty.
      • Perform one-on-one and small-group training of graduate students and postdocs.

      Project Management and Supervision

      • Supervise bioinformatics and microscopy staff at the facility.
      • Serve as the central point of contact for bioinformatics support.

      Other

      • Devise and apply strategies and plans to keep the bioinformatics program up to date.
      • Oversee the acquisition of necessary materials and supplies for microscopy services.
      • Develop and implement a sustainable budget model (also incorporating long-term plans for equipment maintenance and acquisition) in collaboration with the Associate Dean for Research and Graduate Education and other relevant
      • individuals involved with CFAES core analytical offerings.


      Minimum Required Qualifications

      Master's Degree, PhD or equivalent experience required. 5-6 years of relevant experience required. 6-8 years of relevant experience preferred.
