- Review and provide input as policy related to conservation is drafted, with emphasis on the Farm Bill
- Works directly with conservation partners from other agencies and NGO’s to scope projects applicable to the Louisiana landscape
- Explore alternative funding to deliver conservation statewide
- Verify time and attendance
- Train staff in agency practices, as well as management techniques and project delivery
- Provide staff with the tools and knowledge necessary for project delivery
- Track progress of individual projects
- Manage formal agreements and report activities to conservation partners

BIOLOGIST PROGRAM MANAGER
This Biologist Program Manager position is in the Office of Wildlife- Habitat Stewardship, Farm Bill Program. This position leads the Office of Wildlife’s efforts related to conservation delivery on private lands. Activities are generally related to Farm Bill Program delivery or projects funded through other conservation partners. The incumbent of this position routinely represents the agency at the regional and national scale as conservation policy is drafted and habitat projects are planned. Travel is required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:A baccalaureate degree in a biological science, marine science, environmental science, wildlife or fisheries management, animal science, forestry, natural resources, or conservation followed by seven years of professional experience in wildlife or fisheries research, management, education or conservation; forestry; or in environmental science.SUBSTITUTIONS:Graduate training in qualifying fields may be substituted for up to one year of the required experience on the basis of thirty semester hours for one year of experience.A non-thesis master's degree in qualifying fields will substitute for one year of the required experience.A master's degree with completed thesis in qualifying fields will substitute for two years of the required experience.A Ph.D. in qualifying fields will substitute for two years of the required experience.NOTE:Examples of non-qualifying degrees are science education (of any discipline), geology, geography, nuclear science, and agribusiness.NOTE: Any college hours or degree must be from an accredited college or university.FUNCTION OF WORK:To manage a major statewide biological, environmental, or research program for a division within the Department of Wildlife and Fisheries.LEVEL OF WORK:Manager.SUPERVISION RECEIVED:Broad from a Biologist Administrator or a Biologist Director.SUPERVISION EXERCISED:Direct supervision over Biologist Manager or Biologist DCL-A.LOCATION OF WORK:Department of Wildlife and Fisheries.JOB DISTINCTIONS:Differs from Biologist Manager by responsibility for managing a major statewide biological or environmental program.Differs from Biologist Director by absence of responsibility for two or more statewide programs and acting as an assistant to a division administrator.EXAMPLES LISTED BELOW INCLUDE BRIEF SAMPLES OF COMMON DUTIES ASSOCIATED WITH THIS JOB TITLE. PLEASE NOTE THAT NOT ALL TASKS ARE INCLUDED.Directs and manages a major research, biological, or environmental management program encompassing multiple species and geographic areas.Plans and develops highly complex techniques for the management of wildlife and fisheries habitats and populations and environmental protection.Reviews current literature, confers with other environmental professionals, designs research projects to provide life history data, considers adequate sample size for statistical analysis, develops procedures with other managers, and monitors progress of projects.Reviews data from completed studies, prepares manuscripts for publication with subordinates, and formulates recommendations for continued research, initiating new projects or management recommendations.Participates on scientific committees or task forces at the state, national, or international level.Confers frequently with international, federal, state, and local officials and natural resource professionals to review user-group, landowner, or habitat problems and develop a consensus on procedures for solution.Reviews and approves research and development projects proposed by subordinates to insure soundness of scientific principle and compliance with appropriate guidelines.Conducts sensitive, complex negotiations on biological and departmental issues with private industry, landowners, and governmental agencies.Coordinates contracts for technical services between the department, universities, and private concerns.About the company
