- Uses SAS and/or R to import and merge data from various sources/database i.e., REDCap, PHIS, NEDS, HCUP, administrative data, data from medical health records and other health record repositories
- Transform and merge long and wide data per clinical team member’s request
- Communicates with team members regarding data complexity, data contents and data availability
- Programs quality control checks for source data and reporting data issues
- Understands ICD 9/ICD10 diagnostic and procedure codes to query data from various data sources
- Interprets project level requirements and develops programming specifications
- Creates analytic data sets, codebook, data dictionary, statistical analysis tables and figures
- Validates datasets and all statistical outputs per prescribed gate checks
- Determines appropriate data variables based on research questions and methods, format data, and identify and resolve data anomalies
- Actively contributes to development of a statistical analysis plan that includes methods, programming procedures, variable definition, and data handling rules and procedures.
- Investigates increasingly complex methods for inclusion into projects.
- Uses SAS and R to analyze and clean data to build models
- Applies proficient level of statistical programming to clean and interrogate data, view diagnostics elements of data such as underlying distributions and parameters, implement optimal statistical methods, interpret and export key visuals and results.
- Validates and documents methods such that both more senior statisticians and domain experts may understand and replicate.
- Investigates optimal methods for validation and documentation.
- Provides analysis services for grant applications.
- Contributes to academic output of study teams by writing methods, results, and interpretation for manuscript publication, authoring abstracts, and presenting at professional conferences under the guidance of senior staff/manager.
- Recommends protocol, workflow, or data management changes based on results.
- Participates in communication of research methods, implementation, and results to varied audience of clinicians, scientists, analysts, and programmers.
- Contributes to critical assessment of computational and algorithmic approaches to address assigned biomedical research questions.
- Tracks project activities for reporting and billing purposes.
Bachelor's Degree Required
Master's Degree Preferred
At least three (3) years experience with progressively more complex applied statistics. Required

Proficient in programming and application of common statistical methods in medical and clinical research, such as SAS, STATA, R or another commonly accepted analytical programming language.
Excellent verbal and written communications skills with the demonstrated ability to explain technical concepts to a lay audience.
Detail-oriented with excellent validation and documentation skills.
High level of personal initiative; ability to work independently as well as collaborate in teams and with people from multiple business and scientific areas.
Proficient in UNIX and/or Windows OS.

A Brief OverviewThis position will focus on data analyses using data from the electronic medical record, administrative/billing data in the Pediatric Health Information Systems (PHIS) database, and multi-center chart abstractions to improve outcomes for children with acute leukemia. The electronic medical record data include vital sign, laboratory results, medications, radiology results, and procedure data from Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia and three other pediatric hospitals. Data from PHIS include standard demographic data and daily resource billing data and chart abstraction data include very extensive treatment and outcome data, including cardiac function data. These data have also been linked to external data sources, including a wide range of geospatial data sources and the Children’s Oncology Group clinical trial data. Currently, ongoing research projects using these data include identifying modifiable drivers of disparities in leukemia outcomes, improving the identification and reporting of adverse events on clinical trials, determining optimal therapeutic strategies for patients with relapsed/refractory AML, and longitudinal analyses of cardiac outcomes.
