Job Summary
The Deland Fellowship in Health Care and Society prepares professionals to be leaders of tomorrow’s health care institutions. During this one-year fellowship, appointees develop skills which are fundamental to the leadership of an academic and community-based medical center. The program is based at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, a world leader in patient care, medical education and research, and a major teaching hospital of Harvard Medical School, and Brigham and Women’s Faulkner Hospital in the Jamaica Plain section of Boston. The fellowship experience is further enhanced by the hospital's membership in the Mass General Brigham System (formerly Partners Healthcare), founded by Brigham and Women's Hospital and Massachusetts General Hospital. This integrated system, the largest in the Boston area, is advancing the field of health care through collaborative clinical programs, teaching and research initiatives. The program is a distinctive and unique learning opportunity. Through project-based learning guided by senior management, Deland fellows focus on effective ways to bridge the worlds of medicine and administrative management. Fellows pursing administrative roles gain understanding of the clinical aspects of healthcare; and clinician fellows explore the principles of management, operations and finance. Under the mentorship of a senior executive, the opportunities for study include: - Participation in meetings of senior leaders and assignments to special projects under their guidance. - Experience in management, finance, operations, marketing and community relations; - Hands-on exposure to clinical work, including physician and nursing rounds, observing clinical procedures and quality rounds; - Experience working within an integrated health care system of academic and community-based hospitals. The Deland Fellowship is a distinctive and unique learning opportunity which is well suited to applicants who have previous full-time work experience in related fields. HOW TO APPLY The Deland Fellowship application includes two components. 1. NAFCAS Application: Applicants must submit an application through the National Administrative Fellowship Centralized Application Service (NAFCAS) in accordance with NAFCAS timelines. The NAFCAS application includes the following components: - CV - Cover Letter - Essay Questions - Official Graduate School Transcript - Three (3) Letters of Recommendation: (1) Academic, (1) Professional and (1) Other (academic, professional, or letter from your program director) The NAFCAS application is available at https://nafcas.liaisoncas.org/ 0. BWH Application: Complete this application through the BWH Careers page. This application will be available on the BWH website August through September. For the current 2023-2024 application cycle, applications are due by no later than September 29, 2023 in accordance with NAFCAS timelines. All interviews will be conducted virtually during the period between September – October 2023. Candidates selected for the Deland Fellowship during this cycle will begin the Fellowship in June 2024. Candidates for the Deland Fellowship come from a variety of careers and educational backgrounds, including medicine, business, law, public policy, and public health. An advanced degree from a U.S. accredited institution is required for consideration. The Deland Fellowship is a distinctive and unique learning opportunity which requires Fellows to display self-motivation, critical thinking, and leadership and to take initiative to address complex challenges at all levels of the organization. 2 years of relevant professional work experience is required, and 3 years of relevant professional work experience in a healthcare or business environment is strongly preferred. Please note that applicants must have a graduate degree as well as a valid work authorization for employment in the United States (the Deland Fellowship does not sponsor visas).Qualifications
