      Primary Purpose:

      Coordinates administrative activities related to the Collections & Exhibitions, Conservation, and Curatorial Divisions; performs clerical functions, and provides administrative support for essential functions of all division members.

      Essential Functions:

      • Provide research support, as directed, to the Director of Curatorial Affairs, and Museum Curators.
      • Conduct research into objects in the collection, as well as potential acquisitions, including the compiling of catalogue information, provenance, bibliography, and exhibition histories.
      • Conduct research related to upcoming exhibitions, including compiling, and maintaining, object lists, research bibliographies, and relevant correspondence.
      • Assist in exhibition planning, including the drafting of exhibition related materials, such as loan letters and correspondence, as well as liaising with departments across the Museum on behalf of the Curator.
      • Perform administrative duties on behalf of the Director of Curatorial Affairs, and Museum Curators, including drafting correspondence, assisting with lecture and program planning, and providing support at Division functions, such as Committee Meetings and Special Events.
      • Oversee and/or assist in special research projects as directed by the Director of Curatorial Affairs.
      • Participate in events and activities related to the Museum’s various affiliated donor and stewardship groups, as directed.
      • Serve as an ambassador for the museum locally, regionally, nationally, and internationally.

      Required Education, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

      • M.A. degree in Museum Studies, Art History, or related field
      • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to effectively connect and engage constituents through public speaking and writing
      • Ability to develop and maintain a wide variety of working relationships with many different colleagues at the two sites and including the general public
      • Excellent writing skills
      • Strong research and presentation skills
      • Must be able to work under pressure and meet deadlines

      Preferred Experience, and KSAs (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities):

      • Advanced computer skills and be well-versed with Microsoft Office and Apple products. Able to learn Museum-specific programs and software.
      • Experience in collections management system (TMS)

      Working Conditions:

      Position will be based in a busy office environment and will be subject to frequent interruptions. The ability to work professionally with highly confidential information.

      Physical Requirements:

      Must be able to lift and carry file boxes and other awkward items weighing up to 25 lbs., including up and down stairs. Requires intermittent standing, walking, sitting, squatting, stretching, and bending throughout the workday. Must be able to see and hear, or use prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately to assure that the requirements of this position can be fully met.
