      Job Summary:

      The Business Development Manager (BDM) is a 'hunter' sales role focused on generating new business by prospecting and acquiring new customers. The BDM will be assigned to one or more sales teams where they will partner with an Account Manager (AM) and Customer Service Representative (CSR) for all assigned accounts. The development of quotes will be led by a shared services Inside Sales team. Once a new customer is established, the AM will take over the 'farmer' role of maintaining the relationship and continue to grow the existing business. In addition to acquiring net new customers, the BDM will also assist the AM with pursuing strategic growth at existing accounts. Roles and responsibilities will be defined during the Account Management and Pursuit Planning processes.


      This role supports Timberline's Commercial business which provides build-to-print contract manufacturing services for OEMs who need Electrical Wire Harnesses and/or Industrial Control Panels.


      Essential Duties and Responsibilities

      • Capture revenue at new and assigned accounts to meet and exceed the Revenue budget
      • Identify and develop a pipeline of potential new customers within Timberline's target markets
      • Develop and implement capture strategies leading to the establishment of long-term supply contracts with OEM customers
      • Initiate and build relationships with key influencers and decision makers at target accounts
      • Build a Pipeline of opportunities
      • Identify and qualify opportunities
      • Track opportunities in a CRM tool
      • Provide on-going accurate forecasts as part of the Timberline SIOP (Sales, Inventory & Operations Planning) process
      • Establish and develop long-term partnership relationships with OEM Customers
      • Position Timberline as the preferred supplier of Electrical Wire Harness and Industrial Control Panels
      • Be viewed as a Trusted Advisor to our Commercial customers
      • Provide technical pre-sale and post-sale support to customers including identifying and recommending ideas for cost saving alternatives
      • Solidify partnership relationships through the establishment of long-term purchasing agreements
      • Develop and execute capture strategies
      • Identify and develop solutions that align Timberline's value propositions with the customer's most important requirements
      • Develop pricing strategies that support profitable growth
      • Work with Sales Leadership to align capture plans with the broader business goals
      • Order capture
      • Lead the development of winning quotations and proposals for new OEM customers
      • Provide leadership and coordination to the Inside Sales, Customer Services, Supply Management and Operations teams
      • Act as the primary interface with the customer by accurately interpreting customer requirements including specifications, drawings and bills of material
      • Drive the development of a winning quotation/proposal
      • Secure internal Timberline approvals
      • Effectively negotiate orders and long-term contracts with the customer
      • Transition accounts to an assigned account manager after the relationship has been successfully established
      • Support Sales Leadership with on-going Marketing initiatives
      • Assist the Commercial Sales team with the development and implementation of the Commercial Sales strategic business plan
      • Monitor competitors by gathering marketplace information on pricing levels, delivery schedules, service levels and service offerings
      • Provide feedback to the Timberline team on current market and industry trends
      • Develop a deep understanding of the OEM markets served
      • Additional responsibilities as required

      • Technical skills: The ability to understand and maintain relevant technical knowledge with respect to equipment and industry applications
      • Marketing skills: Ability to analyze market conditions and communicate customer requirements to Sale Leadership

      Qualifications

      • Minimum of 5 years of Sales / Business Development role or related experience
      • Excellent sales skills with the ability to meet and exceed sales targets
      • Track record of successfully meeting and exceeding quotas
      • Experience with Salesforce CRM a plus
      • Experience working for an Automation Systems Integrator, Equipment OEM or Industrial Distributor is a plus
      • Strong understanding of Understanding of Automation Control Panel technology including PLC Platforms, VFDs, Contactors, Pushbuttons, Terminal Blocks, Power Supplies, Enclosures is a plus
      • Strong understanding of the Electrical Wire Harness industry is a plus
      • IPC-620 Class I, II, III
      • Ability to work a flexible schedule including overtime if needed
      • Ability to hold a driver's license is required
      • This position requires up to 50% travel, with some overnight trips to client locations across the U.S.
      • The majority of current customers are located primarily in the Midwest, with most being one day's drive from Marion, IA.

      Education

      • Relevant bachelor's degree in business or a technical field preferred
