- Associate will manage large retail written premium of $43MM with significant growth goals. This business is a top area of focus for senior leadership and success is critical to achieve 10-5-1. This role positions the East Region to maximize growth and remain closely engaged with our trading partners as we expand within large retail.
- This position will work a long side Sr. Director of Business Development to manage and develop key large retail trading relationships. The associate will be responsible for acting as the primary business development conduit to enhance agency relationships that increase premium production thereby achieving production goals.
- The associate will work with top retailers which may include Strategic Partners, National Partners, and select local/regional brokers. These brokers are sophisticated and typically do not use wholesalers for market access or expertise on business that typically fits standard market appetites. It is necessary to understand the mechanics of large deals and what drives decisions to bind, to support production.
- Engage and build relationships with brokers through regular visits
- Educate brokers on Markel’s product and service offerings; serve as a single point of contact for broker needs
- Grow brand recognition and reputation to drive submission flow and most importantly, production of targeted business
- Work to identify cross-sell opportunities and encourage collaboration across underwriting groups
- Shepherd deals, help get them across the finish line
- Set goals and hold partners accountable for meeting those commitments
- Represent Markel in the marketplace; plan events with brokers, actively participate in trade organizations such as RIMS
- Identify/vet/onboard new appointments where appropriate
- Manage channel conflict
- Develop deep institutional knowledge of Markel
- Build strong relationships and communicate effectively with all Markel stakeholders including leadership, PLLs, underwriting, RSS, claims, etc. It is especially important to gain credibility and become an integral resource for underwriting teams, and to keep apprised on product/appetite changes, marketplace, competitive landscape, etc. to understand and support production efforts effectively.
- Support using tools such as broker pipelines, reports, etc.
- Work with Sr. Director, Product Leads, and Underwriting to build and deploy business plans by broker and product line.
- Share market intel/broker feedback within the organization to help Markel be as relevant as possible in our offerings
