      What You’ll Do:

      The Business Improvement Manager will be responsible for Continuous Improvement initiatives with a strong focus on operational improvements and best practice optimization for all Metrie Manufacturing facilities. The Business Improvement Manager will report directly to the Vice President Manufacturing with a dotted line reporting to the Director, Manufacturing at the “home” facility.

      This position will be located out of one of Metrie’s manufacturing facilities on the West Coast, ideally our Calgary MDF plant

      Responsibilities:

      Continuous Improvement / Business Improvement

      • Champion the Metrie production measurement and control that supports and improve manufacturing productivity (Vorne)
      • Coach and teach the daily plant management system on the floor and plant management levels. Work and coach on improving machine performance and work flow
      • Analyze and improve work and measure performance
      • Provide advanced DMAIC project tools and skills
      • Lead Lean projects for improvement results that can be leveraged across plants, functions, and product lines
      • Ensures that CI training, tools, test practices and resources are available to employees at all levels and are being utilized appropriately and effectively
      • Develop and support reporting to support fact-based decision making for improved results like safety, quality, delivery, cost and inventory
      • Manage real-time data and integrate real-time data into existing process
      • Implement new technologies to improve productivity
      • Advocate and help implement change management processes with respect to Business Improvement and CI
      • Coach the process of developing and deploying effective standard work practices across the Manufacturing locations. Communicate such changes in CI’s promptly to all to ensure consistency

      Training and Development

      • Develops and executes a communication plan to support the rollout and education on continuous improvements specifically for plant location as well as for the broader manufacturing group
      • Facilitate and co-facilitate various CI related workshops and training events; such conducting and leading Kaizen events throughout the Manufacturing group
      • Develop a training and mentoring program that formalizes and accredits our lean practitioner’s progress in the journey to see and eliminate waste

      Business Improvement Strategy

      • Works with plant leadership to develop shared, annual goals and initiatives for CI and skills and culture development
      • Develop a 5-year plan for applicable business units

      Qualifications and experience:

      • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Operations, Manufacturing, or equivalent education and experience as determined by management
      • Hands on experience using modern Operational Excellence and Continuous Improvement methods (LEAN, TPS, SQDCI, etc.)
      • Certified Lean, Six Sigma Black Belt required
      • At least three (3) to five (5) years of experience leading Lean Transformations in manufacturing operations, educating others on Lean principles and deployment planning
      • Knowledge of manufacturing process improvement techniques
      • Previous multi-site experience.
      • Strong managing through influence skills
      • Strong project management, organizational, analytical, and presentation skills
      • Must be a disciplined self-starter who is self-motivated. Ability to work effectively as part of a team and individually is critical for success
      • Demonstrated ability to apply critical thought processes to develop, recommend and implement strategies and programs that address plant and corporate objectives
      • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with ability manage up and down and across the organization
      • Demonstrated ability to resolve conflict effectively and problem solve
      • Able to work collaboratively at all levels throughout the business
      • Be confident in presenting to and speaking with all levels of leadership this role interacts with
      • Excellent computer skills including Microsoft Office and applicable proprietary software applications
      • Demonstrated ability to work efficiently under conditions of multiple deadlines and changing priorities
      • Ability to travel 50%
