Job Description
- Req#: 4810358
- Inspects businesses and meets with business owners to ensure businesses are licensed to operate within the City
- Develops and maintains appropriate business license records
- Enforces the City's business license ordinance; inspects existing businesses to ensure they are licensed; reports those who refuse to purchase a license
- Patrols the City of Aiken for new businesses that need to be licensed; explains the licensing process to new businesses
- Prepares reports, papers, and other documents appropriate to the department; maintains and updates records as required
- Develops and maintains cooperative relationships with other City departments, outside vendors, and the general public contacted in the course of work; assists in resolving problems or complaints
- Performs public relations work to educate area businesses and citizens on license requirements
- Assists Business License Administrator and Revenue Administrator with the collection of any taxes or fees due to the City
- Attends seminars and studies written materials to maintain knowledge of current practices in the field
- Fills in for other employees as needed
- High School diploma or GED; Four year college degree preferred
- At least one year of experience working in a business setting, or any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities
- Computer experience preferred
- Knowledge of City streets and boundaries, and patrol and enforcement experience desirable
- Valid state issued driver's license in good standing
- Analytical abilities are required to interpret data, recognize discrepancies contained in data, and correct or determine the cause of discrepancies
- Interpersonal skills necessary to be pleasant and helpful to citizens and businesses, and courteous of fellow employees while performing duties
- Ability to concentrate and pay close attention to detail with constant breaks in concentration associated with answering phones or speaking in person to citizens requiring assistance while performing various duties
