Monitoring key climate policy, regulatory, technological, and operational requirements and guidelines
Identifying and tracking leading indicators for potential changes in Capital One’s climate strategy
Preparing briefings on policy, regulatory, technological, and operational developments in climate
Flagging strategic questions for the Capital One Climate Strategy team to answer, along with options for the team to consider
Partnering with cross-functional business partners to provide strategic and tactical climate thought partnership and help maintain an up-to-date climate strategy
Building relationships and collaborating with external stakeholders to develop informed perspectives on requirements and guidelines
Maintaining or building in-depth perspectives on select topics relevant to the current priorities of the Capital One Climate Strategy team
Supporting and facilitating climate-related discussions for senior and external audiences
Preparing written materials, storylines, and talking points for high level audiences
Preparing informative presentations for the executive leadership and the Board of Directors
Bachelor’s Degree
At least 4 years of relevant experience in environmental policy and finance, with focuses in energy and climate issues or a combination
Masters in Business Administration (MBA) or a Masters Degree in a relevant discipline
2+ years of experience in climate related work experience within strategy, management consulting, institutional investing, or an environmentally-focused NGO
Experience conveying policy, regulatory, technical, and operational information in a clear and compelling manner; effectively communicating with senior leadership
Experience working with innovative climate technologies and carbon accounting standards
Great interpersonal skills and the ability to work well in a cross functional team
Desire to be a team player and place the best interests of the organization above individual professional objectives
Experience interacting and communicating with key stakeholders at all levels across the company to manage, inform and influence outcomes
Clear results orientation, displaying a focus on achieving both short and long term goals with high judgment and business acumen to understand the tradeoffs. Drive and execute an agenda in an ambiguous and fluid environment
Impeccable written and oral communication credentials, coupled with strategic influencing skills and the ability to drive agreement through intellect, interpersonal and negotiation skills

Our newly established Climate Strategy, Analysis & Advisory Team is responsible for understanding the shifting climate landscape and advising senior leadership on the implications for Capital One. The team’s scope includes organizing and leading company-wide climate strategy efforts, consulting with the climate risk and emissions measurement and disclosure teams, as well as contributing to broader line of business efforts across the enterprise.
Position Summary:
We are seeking an experienced Business Manager with a strategic mindset and ability to synthesize rapidly evolving climate policy, regulatory, technological, and operational (e.g., accounting, reporting) requirements and guidelines. You will collaborate with Corporate Strategy, Investor Relations, Finance, Enterprise Risk, Lines of Business, and various other teams across the company as well as external stakeholders (e.g., other financial institutions, standard setting organizations, non-governmental organizations) to continuously highlight key shifts in requirements, guidelines, opportunities, and challenges.
The Business Manager will join a cross-functional and enterprise-wide team to navigate climate efforts, developing and executing a well managed and results-focused agenda, exercising judgment to balance results with key stakeholders and partners, effectively communicating and influencing across all levels of the organization. With a deep understanding of both changes in external requirements and guidelines and Capital One’s Climate Strategy, you will highlight when these shifts may imply a need to pivot strategic direction and propose strategic questions for Capital One’s Climate Strategy team to answer. You will also focus on building in-depth perspectives on select topics that are critical to the Climate Strategy team’s current priorities. This role comes with the unique opportunity to hone your thought leadership on climate topics, communication skills, and influence and problem solving skills through interactions with a diverse and cross-functional group of business partners and external stakeholders.
