- Drafts, develops, and updates Plats, maps and atlases using AutoCAD and/or GIS software; drafts detailed construction drawings, topographical profiles and related maps, and specifications of areas to be sewered, paved, and drained.
- Formulates designs and prepares detailed drawings of proposed utilities and construction projects, including storm and sanitary sewers, streets, parking lots, drainage systems, recreational areas, gas and water mains, etc.
- Performs difficult geometric and trigonometric computations as related to design work. Converts field survey data to computer form and language for solution and processing of storm drainage system, sanitary sewer system, street, gas/water line and other engineering projects.
- Translates, decodes, and analyzes incoming and outgoing data; enters and maintains the data for GIS to ensure it meets all applicable standards.
- Provides technical assistance and guidance to City GIS users; works with other City departments and outside agencies to ensure project goals are met.
- Utilizes computer technology to design and prepare special drawings, charts, graphic presentations and mathematical models and posters from facts and studies.
- Computes and verifies cost and quantity estimates; verifies and writes legal descriptions.
- Maintains city atlases and engineering project records, as well as other similar clerical work; provides technical assistance and direction for various projects and engineering related functions and tasks.
- Consults, advises, and interfaces with engineers, developers, other City employees and the general public; assists CAD Technicians with more complex and difficult assignments.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

ENTRY SALARY: $63,947.86
Current recruitment is for our Gas System Department.
Under limited supervision and direction, the CAD and GIS Technician II performs advanced, skilled, and technical engineering and computer work related to drafting tasks and developing and maintaining information utilizing Geographic Information System (GIS) applications.
This position will obtain necessary Right-of-Way utilization permits from State, County, City and/or Municipal organizations.Essential Functions : -- Essential functions, as defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include any of the following representative duties, knowledge, and skills. Licenses, Certifications, and Equipment:
A valid State driver's license is required.
Education and Experience:
High School Diploma, High School Equivalency Diploma, or G.E.D. Certificate, supplemented by one (1) year of technical training in computerized mapping, GIS, computerized drafting, civil engineering, computer programming, cartography or other related field AND two (2) years drafting experience using AutoCAD in Engineering drafting, computer cartography, and/or GIS work.; OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may be considered.
