      Main Purpose of Job

      The main purpose of this position is to provide training and monitor the implementation of Prevention and Management of Aggressive Behavior (PMAB) program at JLG-RICA, complying with laws and regulations set forth for the residential program for adolescents with emotional disabilities and court involved youth. This position will train others of the necessary processes and techniques and will lead other trainers. Completion of necessary documentation will be required of this position for restraints and will attend and be part of the treatment plan meetings. Per the Amended Directive and Order Regarding Vaccination (MDH # 2023.04.18.03) issued by the Secretary of the Maryland Department of Health, effective April 18, 2023, staff in all hospitals and residential facilities operated by the Maryland Department of Health or any local health department are required to show proof of COVID-19 vaccination. Staff includes, but is not limited to, regular and contractual employees, contractual staff, volunteers, and other state employees performing any duties at the facility. An individual may request an accommodation by providing appropriate and sufficient documentation for bona fide medical or religious reasons.

      MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

      Education: A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with 30 credit hours in mental health, health, human services, education, or related behavioral sciences including six credit hours in psychology, counseling, addictions or mental health. Experience: One year of experience coordinating and providing distinct interventions unique to the individual physical, mental, learning and social development and therapeutic treatment needs of seriously mentally ill children and adolescents in a therapeutic mental health setting. Notes: 1. A Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in mental health, health, human services, education, or related behavioral sciences may be substituted for one year of the required experience. 2.Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military serviceexperience as a commissioned officer in Mental, Addictions or Behavioral Health Counseling and Psychology classificationsorMental, Addictions or Behavioral Health Counseling andPsychologyspecialty codes in the counseling field of work on ayear-for-year basis for the required experience and education.

      DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

      The desired candidate should possess the following: Experience working with adolescents with emotional disabilities and court involved youth Experience with Prevention and Management of Aggressive Behavior (PMAB) techniques

      LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

      1. Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland. 2. Employees in this classification may be required to successfully complete cardiopulmonary resuscitation training and maintain current certification. 3. Employeesin this classification may be assigned duties in a swimming program. Employees assigned such duties may be required to obtain certification in Life Saving and Water Safety.

      SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

      1. Candidates appointed to positions in this classification must successfully complete an in-service training program and examination approved by the hiring facility prior to a permanent appointment. 2. Applicants are subject to a background investigation by the Maryland State Police before a permanent appointment can be made. A criminal conviction record may be grounds for rejection of the applicant by the hiring agency. 3. Employees in this classification will be required to provide the facility with a telephone number at which they can be reached. 4. Employees in this classification are subject to substance abuse testing in accordance with Code of Maryland Regulations 17.04.09, Testing for Illegal Use of Drugs.
