- Assist students in following and updating their plans of study/roadmaps to meet all graduation requirements
- Provide individual and group advisement meetings as needed prior to registration each semester and at other times for special circumstances
- Provide academic advisement to students who are provisionally admitted, Advanced Standing students, and students in other categories as needed
- Work with the Associate Dean and others to resolve unique study issues, such as:
- Incomplete grades
- Course substitutions
- Practicum extensions
- Revised roadmaps
- Students returning from Leaves of Absence
- Transfers into other program options or into the live virtual/face-to-face, or block program options
- Registration permits
- Requests to audit courses
- Requests for transfer credits
- Connecting to Practicum Planners
- Applying for graduation
- Declaring and meeting the course requirements for advanced certificates and/or CASAC
- Completing Leave of Absence, late Add/Drop, and Withdrawal forms
- Monitoring DegreeTrack to meet graduation requirements
- Intervene when a student encounters a barrier to registration, including by:
- Referring students to appropriate departments when they have holds on their accounts
- Assessing screenshots of registration restriction messages
- Applying permits
- Working directly with the Registrar’s Office staff to resolve barriers to registration
- Monitor course registration numbers and suggest when more sections of courses may be needed
- Refer students to appropriate faculty and/or staff to resolve issues related to courses, practicum, student support, and other services
- Redirect inquiries from students, faculty, and alumni to the appropriate resources
- Refer students to the Associate Dean when they express dissatisfaction with a course, an instructor, the registration process, or services from other departments (Office of Disabilities Services, Office of Student Finances, etc.)
- Document interactions with students via Yeshiva Success Network, Sonia, and other systems
- Answer students’ questions regarding policies, procedures, and appropriate contacts
- Attend Student Support Committee as needed
- Make referrals to the Student Review Committee and provide documentation as needed
- Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred. MSW strongly preferred
- At least 3-5 years of administrative experience required
- An equivalent combination of education and experience will also be considered
- Exceptional people skills
- Capacity to generate professional and courteous correspondence in a timely fashion
- Must possess strong knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
- May use other Microsoft programs as assigned
- The ability to quickly learn and become proficient in new software and technology is essential
- Must be exceedingly well organized, flexible
- Must have the ability to interact with staff (at all levels) in a fast-paced environment, sometimes under pressure, while remaining flexible, proactive, resourceful, and efficient; a high level of professionalism and confidentiality is crucial to this role
- Must demonstrate good judgment, initiative, and attention to detail
- Must possess strong customer service, communication, and organizational skills
Position Summary:
The part-time Academic Advisor will provide academic advisement to students who are admitted on a provisional basis, Advanced Standing students, and students in other categories as needed. The part-time Academic Advisor will work with the Associate Dean, the Academic Advising team, the Onboarding team, and others at the School and University, such as the Registrar’s Office staff, to assist students with their plans of study, barriers to registration, processing Leave of Absence forms, and withdrawals from courses/the School. They will also oversee referrals to student support, faculty, or other University services to resolve student issues.
