      Zimmerman Associates Inc. (ZAI) has openings for a Cataloging Specialist (Short Term) for the U.S. Department of Education Educational Resources Information Center (ERIC). The Cataloging Specialist creates digital records using an Internet-based workflow system for journal and non-journal content; completes metadata fields following the Style Guide for descriptive or subject cataloging; writes abstracts of content as necessary; meets daily production targets and participates in team meetings.

      Job Type: Full-time

      Salary: 55,000

      Principal Duties and Essential Job Functions:

      Produce, edit, modify, and quality check bibliographic records; create accurate cataloging, metadata, and abstracts or indexing according to established rules and procedures for the database. Write original abstracts based on document full text; verify accuracy and readability of author abstracts and correct/develop to meet specified guidelines. Participate in project activities and work groups to support database production and internal/external customer needs. Work in team-oriented, production environment to meet quantity and quality goals.

      Qualifications:

      • Combination of recent experience and/or course work in cataloging, abstracting, editing, proofreading
      • Familiarity with universal cataloging standards of bibliographic databases preferred
      • Experience in database search and retrieval
      • Must demonstrate strong abstracting skills
      • Meticulous attention to detail
      • Knowledge of the field of education, familiarity with subject indexing and the ERIC Thesaurus of Descriptors, and/or experience using the ERIC database are a plus
      • Ability to work collaboratively in a virtual team environment
      • Ability to work quickly, with a high level of quality, to meet project production goals
      • Candidate should be a self-motivated, independent, detail-oriented, responsible team-player and exhibit exceptional communication skills
      • Ability to participate in initial training (in-person or virtually) and biannual All-Hands meetings (in Herndon, VA area)
      • Existing Public Trust Clearance preferred; otherwise must be eligible to obtain.

      Education:

      • MLS degree; related experience in Education preferred
