      Your day as a Category Specialist

      We are seeking a highly skilled Procurement Category Specialist to join our Fleet team, specialising in strategic procurement and category management. You will play a pivotal role in enhancing NSW Procurement strategies by bringing your experience across planning, project management, risk management, cost reduction, innovation, reduced supply chain risk and continuous improvement.

      Your typical day-to-day work includes partnering with stakeholders across the fleet category to plan, develop, source and manage procurement arrangements to deliver value for money and effectively meet business outcomes and government directions.

      Your primary responsibility will be to partner with a wide range of stakeholders (internal and external) and contracted suppliers to develop robust category plans and reporting mechanisms that drive informed decision-making within our team. You will also have the opportunity to demonstrate your leadership skills and lead category management related projects, including go to market activities within our Fleet category.

      This role liaises extensively with other areas within Treasury, with NSW government agencies and equivalents in other jurisdictions across Australia, and with external stakeholders.

      Achieve success as Category Specialist

      In this integral role there are a few things we would like for you to have to best support yourself and add value to the people of NSW.

      You will be successful in this role if you can:

      • Lead Fleet category management related activities for whole-of-government contracts including running end to end Request for Tendering (RFT) supplier relationship management, contract management, including negotiating variations and modifications. Write briefing notes, procurement strategies and governance plans.
      • Collaborate with contracted suppliers and internal stakeholders leveraging your commercial insights and high-level negotiation skills to optimise the value of the procurement through balancing value for money, compliance to policy, efficiency, risks and service levels.
      • Analyse business needs, commercial risks and supply markets to inform category planning and sourcing.
      • Develop, co-ordinate and lead sourcing activities, applying extensive knowledge across the fleet category to establish supply arrangements that deliver desired outcomes (work experience linked to Goods and Services and/or Professional Services, ICT related categories. FMCG experience is not relevant for this role).
      • Provide governance, advice and guidance to internal stakeholders to build expertise in procurement and procurement categories across the organisation.
      • Develop and administer contract management plans, supplier performance management and compliance requirements by developing effective supplier relationships to enhance category outcomes.
      • Identify, manage and mitigate procurement risks to enable the organisation to meet its obligations and maximise business opportunities.
      • Document procurement processes, decisions and contractual arrangements to provide an audit trail for probity and audit purposes.
