What to Expect (Job Responsibilities):
- Provide individualized and classroom-based education on clinical documentation and coding to CDI specialists and medical staff
- Conduct quality reviews of inpatient CDI cases, queries, assigned codes, and working DRGs to ensure accuracy and compliance
- Participate in process improvement initiatives based on audit results
- Educate and mentor new employees through the onboarding process, offering ongoing CDI and coding training
- Analyze clinical and operational processes affecting inpatient reimbursement and quality metrics
What is Required (Qualifications):
- Associate's Degree in Health Information Management or related field AND must be a Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) OR a Bachelor's Degree in Health Information Management AND must be a Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) OR a graduate from an accredited school of nursing with an active State of Ohio LPN or RN licensure OR a graduate of a medical college
- Minimum of three years of experience in clinical documentation improvement in an inpatient setting OR a Bachelor's Degree in Nursing with one year of experience OR a medical degree with one year of experience
- In-depth knowledge of ICD-9-CM (ICD-10-CM) coding principles and DRG assignment
- Formal coursework in anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology
- Expert knowledge of CDIS applications
How to Stand Out (Preferred Qualifications):
- Certified Documentation Improvement Practitioner (CDIP), Certified Clinical Documentation Specialist (CCDS), or Certified Coding Specialist (CCS)
- RN with CDI experience
- Experience with adult learning principles
- Proficiency in presentation skills and Microsoft Office Suite, specifically 3M
- Familiarity with EPIC systems
