      Job Description:

      The Certified Coding Specialist monitors coding performance to improve revenue accuracy and billing. The Certified Coding Specialist reviews records from the electronic health record and ensures the appropriate ICD-10 code(s) and CPT code(s) following guidelines established by federal, state, regulatory, and payer agencies. Duties include reviews for process improvement and coding education. They will advise leadership on areas of opportunity through reporting and documentation reviews.

      This position allows for remote work.

      Your responsibilities will include:

      • Performs research on various compliance/coding topics, including new and existing regulations, best practices, and assess es implications for business

      • Review clinical information for appropriateness, congruency, and accuracy as it relates to documentation and ICD - 10 / CPT coding .

      • Reviews outpatient records to identify the appropriate medical and treatment diagnos e s , as well as, primary vs. secondary diagnos e s.

      • Sequence ICD -10 /CPT codes according to federal, state, regulatory, and payer guidelines

      • Knowledge of and ability to address National Correct Coding Initiative (NCCI) and Local Coverage determinations (LCD) edits

      • Prevent or decrease denials by assuring proper coding on the plan of care and accurate documentation.

      • Review s and communicates recommendations to each clinician to promote coding accuracy.

      • Provide education and act as a resource for documentation, ICD-10 /CPT coding and billing related issues.

      To excel in this role you should possess:

      Educational Requirements

      • Must possess a minimum of one of the following: CCS: Certified Coding Specialist Certification, CPC: Certified Professional Coder,

      • Bachelor ’s degree in business , health information management, physical therapy, occupational therapy, or speech language pathology.

      • 2 years of c linical experience in physical therapy, occupational therapy, or speech therapy is preferred .

      • Proven computer skills, including advanced expertise and working knowledge of Microsoft 365 (Office Suite, Teams, One Drive), Adobe programs , Electronic Health Records , RCM systems, and k nowledge of project management tools such as Smartsheet are preferred.

      • Written proficiency sufficient to proof and polish documents, i.e., grammar, verb tense, syntax, spelling.

      Compensation for this role can range from $60,000.00 to $70,000.00 based on experience.
