  This is an application to the Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) Pathway Program for Prairie State College students.

  In partnership with Prairie State College, the UChicago Medicine Health System is proud to announce the 2025 Summer cohort of the Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) Pathway program. This program is a unique opportunity for students who are currently enrolled in the June 2025 class for Basic Nursing Assistant program at Prairie State College.

  As a participant in the program, the cost of tuition for the BNA program will be reimbursed at 100% through grant funds. Participants will gain exposure to the inpatient setting by working one day a week on an inpatient unit for the duration of the program. Participants will be eligible for full time and/or part time permanent employment at UCM as a certified nursing assistant upon successful completion of the program.

  Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) Extern - Harvey, Illinois

  A Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) Extern is a participant in the CNA Pathway program and will perform activities which support the learning of the Nursing Support Assistant role on a patient care unit.

  Under the direction of unit leadership and the support of a partner, the CNA Extern will obtain knowledge through strictly observation of proper operations, tasks, and responsibilities related to a nursing support assistant role, including:

  • Demonstrate effective communication skills with patients and staff
  • Demonstrate professionalism, compassion, and kindness with patients and staff
  • Demonstrate eagerness to learn, and enthusiasm for the work.
  • Demonstrate proper techniques and methods to support patient care
  • Demonstrate proper techniques to support patient room set-up and transitions
  • Demonstrate interdisciplinary cross collaboration and problem solving activities

  Position Details:

  • This role is a temporary, paid position.
  • This role is one day a week, four hour shift
  • (Fridays) for 8 weeks. Schedule will not conflict with education program class times and course requirements.
  • Location will be onsite, on an in-patient unit.

  Upon successful program completion, participants will have earned a C.N.A Certification and will be eligible for a permanent Clinical Associate role at Ingalls Memorial Hospital.

  Applicant Criteria

  • Interested applicants must be currently enrolled in the 2025 June start of the Basic Nursing Assistant training program at Prairie State College.
  • Only active students for the June 2025 class will be reviewed.
  • Applicants must be able to pass background check and medical clearance.
  • Applicants must commit to 100% attendance to 4 hour shifts for 8 weeks
  • Applicants must complete an application and interview with UCM Talent Acquisition team

  Compensation & Benefits Overview

  UChicago Medicine is committed to transparency in compensation and benefits. The pay range provided reflects the anticipated wage or salary reasonably expected to be offered for the position.

  The pay range is based on a full-time equivalent (1.0 FTE) and is reflective of current market data, reviewed on an annual basis. Compensation offered at the time of hire will vary based on candidate qualifications and experience and organizational considerations, such as internal equity. Pay ranges for employees subject to Collective Bargaining Agreements are negotiated by the medical center and their respective union.
