      Retail Technology Services (RBS) provides the underpinning technology for simple, convenient and affordable banking and general insurance products and services to personal and private bank customers, helping them manage their everyday banking needs, buy a home, protect their assets or invest for the future.

      This role is a part of our Core Banking Product Crew within Retail Technology. We are responsible for leading our retail end-to-end digital-first customer experience strategy, driving innovation, improving customer engagement and creating new business opportunities through partnerships, ventures and the Group’s digital ecosystem.


      As an Engineering Manager - Chapter Lead, we are looking to hire a Chapter Lead Software Engineer to develop and deliver the Software Engineering vision for our Core Banking Product Crew in Retail Technology. This high availability, modernised platform powers many critical elements of the customer experience for our products.

      We’re interested in hearing from people who has experience in

      • Defining Crew software technical roadmap and ensuring alignment to reference architecture, enterprise data standards, and modernisation priorities including cloud-first and AI-enhanced solutions.

      • Paving the way for squads to deliver autonomously at pace. Removing technology blockers, decoupling applications and streamlining processes. Enabling velocity through tech enablers such as DevOps, containerisation, and API-first design.

      • Planning, definition and high-level design of solutions; assist Squads to identify the right technologies and ensure sound architectural decisions

      • Working with Chapter leads on defining and forecasting Crew tech capability requirements. Support implementation of practices, tooling and training provided in the Crew e.g. architecture, engineering governance and controls.

      • Driving operational excellence and supports teams in charge of mission-critical production services with diverse stakeholders and complex dependencies.

      • Driving good design, refactoring and technical debt elimination. - ensure technical debt and associated impacts are visible to Crew and work with POs to reduce it over time

      • Ensuring delivery within funding allocation, active management and mitigation of delivery and delivered risk

      • Accountable for the development, performance management and career progression of a number of Technology roles e.g. Software and Systems Engineers

      Tech Skills

      We use a broad range of tools, languages, and frameworks. We don’t expect you to know them all but experience or exposure with some of these will set you up for success in this team:

      • Back-end: strong hands-on experience with the technologies like C#, ASP.NET, .NET Core

      • Front-end: Modern JavaScript frameworks

      • Sound knowledge of large-scale distributed systems, Microservices, and Rest API Integration

      • Cloud - AWS (preferred) or Azure

      • CI/CD pipeline - GitHub Actions, TeamCity, Octopus

      • DB - SQL database and NoSQL database (PostgreSQL, Amazon Aurora, DynamoDB)

      • Any experience with the following would be great – GenAI, Payment’s domain
