- Presents and provides educational activities that are culturally-sensitive, attachment-based, and trauma-informed to children in an unrestricted environment using best practices.
- Collaborates with the Child Development Coordinator and Child Development Teacher Mentor to plan lessons, create classroom strategies, set educational goals for individuals and groups, and make daily care plans using the Creative Curriculum and Teaching Strategies Gold as a framework.
- Participates and assists in implementing parent-child attachment interventions (e.g., A Good Good-Bye, Family Tradition Groups).
- Develops and facilitates child development goals in accordance with family partnership agreements and Teaching Strategies Gold observation.
- Develops, plans, and prepares instructional aids/materials for the classroom.
- Ensures that all center classroom paperwork (e.g., daily checklists, daily log, child observation, assessment tools, and progress notes) is completed in a timely fashion.
- Conducts weekly observations on assigned children using the Teaching Strategies Gold online tool.
- Completes child development screenings (ASQ & ASQ-SE, DECA-IT).
- Completes quarterly checkpoints and parent conferences for each child in the Teaching Strategies Gold online tool.
- Maintains a clean and safe classroom environment.
- Conducts courteous communications with parents regarding their child’s progress, needs, and concerns.
- Follows all Office of Child Care licensing requirements and EHS Performance Standards.
- Complete a minimum of two home visits annually.
- Must be able to lift, push, pull, or carry a minimum weight of 25 pounds and carry small children as necessary.
- Must be able to bend, squat, and work with child-sized spaces.
- Ninety-hour Early Childhood Education Certificate required.
- Forty-five-hour Infant Toddler Certificate required.
- Child Development Associate credential (CDA) is required within three months of employment.
- Must possess and maintain cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and First Aid certification.
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Associate’s degree or higher in Early Childhood Education or Child Development is preferred.
- Minimum of one year supervised classroom experience working directly with children ages birth to three years old required.
- Daycare experience preferred.

The Child Development Teacher will be primarily responsible for teaching and providing high quality childcare while parents engage in meaningful activities at the Early Head Start (EHS) center. This staff member will plan and present accurate and engaging lessons to enrolled children. The position is responsible for ensuring a safe, clean, and comfortable childcare space that is conducive to quality parent/child interactions and exceptional educational experiences.
The Early Childhood Development and Education Center's Southeast Early Head Start program offers specialized child care services for children under the age of three whose families are experiencing a variety of high-risk factors such as community trauma, interpersonal violence, housing instability, recovery from addiction, as well as the many challenges faced by families where English is a second language.
The Southeast Early Head Start offers an attachment-based, trauma-informed child care program based on teaching methods and mental health intervention approaches that support strong parent-child attachments and enhance stability in the family.
The Southeast Early Head Start Program is a delegate agency of the Maryland Family Network, and is licensed by the Maryland State Department of Education’s Office of Child Care.
