- Two full-time temporary role opportunities for 1-year with potential for further extension or ongoing employment prospects located at Strawberry Hills with hybrid / flexible working arrangements.
- Clerk Grade 7/8 - $106,025 - $117,363 (plus employer's contribution to superannuation and annual leave loading)
- Undertake activities including hosting sector meetings, meeting face-to-face with organisations, and webinars, to educate and increase awareness of the WWCC, children's employment, the Specialised Substitute Residential Care (SSRC) Code of Practice and Child Safe Standards and the importance of being child safe.
- Provide concise advice and accurate information to organisations and other stakeholders regarding the Child Safe Standards, the Working with Children Check (WWCC), the SSRC Code of Practice and the children's employment legislation.
- Assess an organisation's ability to apply the Child Safe Standards, provide guidance and advice to the organisation’s representatives, and manage case load using basic project management methodology.
- Organise, plan, and undertake compliance operations using basic project management methodology, and undertake audits, and investigations of alleged breaches of the Child Safe Standards, WWCC, the SSRC Code of Practice and children's employment legislation.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, as well as influence and negotiation skills.
- Proven ability to interpret and apply legislation is strongly preferred.
- Certificate IV in Government Investigations or willing to undergo studies to achieve certification.
- All roles associated with the Office of the Children's Guardian are required to have a current Working with Children Check.
- Employment at the Office of the Children’s Guardian is subject to the satisfactory completion of security and vetting checks.
- The role also requires a current driver’s licence as there is travel associated with this role.
- Give an example of when you have provided accurate advice and information to a stakeholder in relation to their legislative obligations to encourage upfront compliance. Describe the challenges you faced and how you overcame them.
- Provide an example of when you have led and facilitated productive discussions with staff and/or stakeholders.

Child Safe Organisation provides free training for anyone in NSW who wants to know more about creating and maintaining child safe organisations. It offers Child Safe training, which assists organisations to create and maintain child safe environments. It covers Risk Management, Situational Prevention, Policies and Procedures, Organisational Culture, Recruitment, Reporting Obligations and the Working with Children's Check.
About the role
The Child Safe Officer is responsible for sectors providing services to children and provides expert advice and capacity building support to organisations aimed at ensuring the services they provide meet the Child Safe Standards.
The role also undertakes compliance operations, audits, and investigations to identify organisations not complying with the Child Safe Standards, children's employment, or WWCC legislation and recommends enforcement action to address non-compliance.
