- Employees in job classifications represented by Municipal Employees Association (MEA) are scheduled to receive the following general wage increases:
- Eligible benefitted employees originally hired on or after July 10, 2021, will be automatically enrolled in the San Diego City Employees Retirement System (SDCERS).
- Clerical Assistant II is also a job class used to underfill a number of other classifications throughout the City. This includes Office Support Specialist, Test Administration Specialist, Payroll Specialist series, and Benefits Representative series, to name a few. After gaining the requisite experience, employees may be eligible for career advancement to higher-level classifications. - Some Clerical Assistant II positions may be filled on a limited, hourly basis.
- One year of full-time clerical experience which may include typing, filing, providing information to the public, and general bookkeeping as typical duties. Six months of this experience MUST be in a position where the PRIMARY job responsibility is clerical in nature and must include a wide range of qualifying clerical duties.
- Associate’s Degree in Business Office Technology or a closely related field.
- A Bachelor's Degree or equivalent education (i.e., minimum completed units = 120 semester/180 quarter) may be substituted for a MAXIMUM of one year of the required experience.
- The ability to type at a corrected speed of 30 or 50 words per minute on a computer keyboard may be required for some positions.
- City of San Diego employees using Out-of-Class Assignment (OCA) experience to qualify must submit written documentation signed by their appointing authority or payroll specialist, detailing the work performed, dates, and total number of qualifying OCA hours. OCA experience without the required documentation will NOT be considered.
- Bilingual communication skills.
- Proof of degree/transcript, if utilized to meet the minimum requirements.

Clerical Assistant II positions work in a variety of City of San Diego departments and perform various typing tasks; serve as receptionists; keep records and compile statistics; operate office machines; and perform other duties as assigned.
