What to Expect (Job Responsibilities):
- Conduct post-discharge, final coded, pre-bill reviews of targeted records to ensure accurate reporting of patient acuity and DRG assignment
- Serve as a subject matter expert and resource for the Clinical Documentation Integrity (CDI) team
- Maintain summaries of identified opportunities for feedback and education with the CDI team
- Participate in quality initiatives and collaborate with CDI Leadership to optimize documentation practices
- Perform targeted audits and engage in change management processes to support the CDI team
What is Required (Qualifications):
- Minimum of 3 years of CDI experience as a concurrent reviewer
- Education: Diploma in Nursing or Health Information Management, Associate's, Bachelor's, or Doctorate Degree in related fields
- Extensive clinical knowledge and understanding of pathology/physiology
- Strong critical thinking skills and the ability to analyze medical records for documentation improvement
- Certification for Clinical Documentation Improvement (CCDS) or Clinical Documentation Improvement Practitioner (CDIP) required
How to Stand Out (Preferred Qualifications):
- Experience in a hospital setting with a strong understanding of Case Mix Index (CMI)
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with an assertive personality
- Knowledge of inpatient admission criteria and ability to work independently within a virtual environment
- Demonstrated ability to incorporate current literature and best practices into daily work
- Detail-oriented with strong analytical and problem-solving skills
