What to Expect (Job Responsibilities):
- Review clinical documentation during patient admissions and identify opportunities for improvement in physician documentation
- Conduct timely follow-up reviews to ensure accurate clinical documentation is recorded in patient charts
- Perform concurrent hospital-wide medical record reviews to enhance the quality and accuracy of documentation
- Submit electronic queries to clinicians to ensure complete and accurate records for coding assignments
- Maintain required metrics and productivity standards while participating in meetings and adhering to departmental policies
What is Required (Qualifications):
- Bachelor’s Degree in nursing or a health-related field
- Minimum of one year working as a Clinical Documentation Specialist (CDS) in an acute care setting
- At least five years of healthcare experience
- Active/current certifications in Clinical Documentation Improvement, Coding, or related fields
- Strong written communication skills and proficiency in MS Office applications
How to Stand Out (Preferred Qualifications):
- Prior experience as a CDI/Coding auditor or in inpatient case management
- Strong medical surgical and/or critical care background
- Experience with care coordination, coding/DRG, billing, and auditing
- EPIC Electronic Medical Record and CDI Software experience
- CCDS and/or CDIP certification
