What to Expect (Job Responsibilities):
- Perform timely medical record reviews to ensure accurate Diagnosis Related Group (DRG) assignments
- Collaborate with clinical providers to clarify documentation reflecting severity of illness and risk of mortality
- Utilize knowledge of coding guidelines to enhance clinical documentation practices
- Identify and escalate query opportunities to improve medical record integrity
- Maintain proficiency in reviewing complex cases and reconciling data in the Clinical Documentation Integrity database
What is Required (Qualifications):
- Registered Nurse in the State of Virginia or a compact state
- Minimum of 2 years of experience as a Clinical Documentation Integrity Specialist
- Proven ability to meet or exceed Clinical Documentation Integrity Specialist I skills
- Completion of a CDI competency assessment with 95% accuracy
- Must maintain registered nurse licensure
How to Stand Out (Preferred Qualifications):
- Working towards an advanced nursing degree or Certified Clinical Documentation Integrity Specialist (CCDS)
- Demonstrated knowledge of disease pathophysiology and clinical skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to function independently in a fast-paced environment
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and general office equipment
