What to Expect (Job Responsibilities):
- Communicate effectively with providers, case managers, coders, and healthcare team members to enhance medical record documentation
- Utilize the clinical documentation system to identify and improve physician and hospital outcomes
- Provide education on compliance, coding, and clinical documentation issues to internal customers
- Conduct evaluations of documentation and analyze findings to ensure accurate diagnosis-related group (DRG) assignments
- Collaborate with ancillary and support services to maintain quality documentation practices
What is Required (Qualifications):
- Bachelor’s degree in nursing required; equivalent work experience may be considered
- Minimum of three years of recent clinical nursing experience required
- Current unencumbered RN license with the State Board of Nursing or multistate licensure if in a Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) state
- Strong communication, critical thinking, and conflict management skills
- Knowledge of federal, state, and payer regulations related to clinical documentation
How to Stand Out (Preferred Qualifications):
- Experience in case management, utilization management, and/or coding
- Certification in Clinical Documentation Specialist (CCDS) or Clinical Documentation Improvement and Integrity (C-CDI)
- Graduate from a nationally accredited nursing program preferred
