Job summary
This post would suit individuals who aim to pursue a career in a clinical area but who would like to gain experience in Emergency Medicine and medical education, both at undergraduate and postgraduate level. The successful candidate will be involved in coordinating and delivering the Trust's undergraduate clinical teaching programme (ten sessions per week per annual average) within the Emergency Medicine Department at Peterborough City Hospital
The main educational duties will be delivering structured clinical teaching sessions, including bedside teaching, seminars, and teaching clinics, as well as running formative exams including OSCE and single best answer (SBA). This will include three Saturday mornings per year for student assessments with time off in lieu.
Main duties of the job
The Trust provides undergraduate medical and surgical clinical teaching to medical students from the University Of Leicester, School Of Medicine (Year 3 ward based apprenticeships to Year 5 clinical assistantships, and including Year 4 specialty blocks) and the University of Cambridge School of Clinical Medicine (Year 4 Core Clinical Method placements through to Year 6 Senior Placements.
Teaching is provided in a variety of clinical settings and the post holders will undertake ten fixed sessions per week working with undergraduate medical students from both Cambridge and Leicester Medical Schools who are on formal placements in Emergency Medicine. The post holder will be expected to participate in student induction sessions and assessment sessions along with consultants. The post holder will be the main point of contact for all medical students in this particularly hard-pressed department.
Tasks will include working with medical students each day to assign cases, receive back student findings, act as liaison between medical students and clinical staff as well as presenting structured teaching sessions, bedside teaching or ensuring that these are presented by appropriate colleagues. The post-holder will also be required to participate in student induction sessions as well as formative exams, including OSCEs, held at the Trust on behalf of the Medical Schools.

Funding is available for a PGCert Medical Education at Cambridge University or alternative institution up to £4250.00.00. Study leave and support will be provided by the Medical Education Department. (Please note 12 days will be taken from your study leave allowance). If the post holder resigns during the post, the payment towards the PG Certificate needs to be returned in full.
