- Bachelor's degree in Computer / Computational / Data Science, or Domain Sciences with computer / computational / data specialization or equivalent experience.
- Proven ability to develop, implement and maintain analytical pipelines managing Positron Emission Tomography (PET) and Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) imaging data
- Demonstrated knowledge of PET radioligands used in neurological/dementia research and related conditions’ pathophysiology
- Proven skills and experience in multiple programming languages (e.g. MATLAB, Python, R) and batch processing of large volumes of imaging data
- Intermediate knowledge of HPC / data science / CI.
- Thorough experience working in a complex computing / data / CI environment encompassing all or some of the following: HPC, data science infrastructure and tools / software, and diverse domain science application base.
- Proven skills and experience in independently perform quality control of data processing, including but not limited to checking data quality, biological plausibility of results, possible technical errors or artifacts
- Proven ability to run statistical analysis on large neuroimaging datasets (general linear models, mixed effect models)
- Demonstrated ability to contribute research and technical content to grant proposals.
- Demonstrated experience and ability to communicate and collaborate effectively with all levels of staff; technical, students, faculty and administrators
- Thorough experience managing and harmonizing data coming from multiple sites with different scanner manufacturers and models
- Demonstrated experience in creating uniform data outputs, standardized reports, practical visualizations
- Demonstrated experience in sharing and explaining scripts and tools to team members
Job Summary
Applies skills as an experienced research professional in neurological and dementia research. Uses computational, computer science, data science software and principles to develop and maintain analytical pipelines for medium-sized or portions of larger projects involving both Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) and Positron Emission Tomography (PET) data. Combines technical and theoretical knowledge to build uni-/cross-modal pipelines enabling harmonized analyses, standardized data outputs, accurate quality control, straightforward visualization and reporting. Implements pipelines and scripts to be shared with other team members to standardize and expedite workflow. Employs, organizes and manages High Performance Computing (HPC) resources for the lab. Works on algorithm development, optimization, programming, performance analysis based on the dynamic needs of the team for already acquired and prospectively acquired data, accommodating incoming requests for modified pipelines.
The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.
Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.
The salary range for this position is $88,900 - $100,000 (Annual Rate).

Department Description
The Rabinovici Laboratory (RabLab) is housed within the Memory and Aging Center (MAC) Research Program in the UCSF Department of Neurology. The RabLab’s mission is to advance the understanding of heterogeneous neurodegenerative disorders using novel molecular imaging tools and other biomarkers with the goal of developing personalized care and tailored treatments for people with cognitive decline. The UCSF MAC is directed by Dr. Bruce Miller and includes specialists from a wide v ariety of disciplines including neurology, neuropsychology, geriatrics, geropsychiatry, pharmacy, nursing, social work and speech pathology who are available to participate in a patient’s evaluation. MAC investigators typically evaluate and care for people with memory concerns and a wide spectrum of neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s disease , frontotemporal dementia , progressive supranuclear palsy , corticobasal syndrome , rapidly progressive dementia , dementia with Lewy bodies and Huntington’s disease .
