      Job Title: Semi-skilled Machinist

      Salary: £15.07 ph

      Location: Shrewsbury

      Job Summary

      An exciting opportunity has arisen within Caterpillar Shrewsbury for a permanent Semi Machinist, reporting to the Machining & Salvage department Team Leader. There are a variety of duties encompassed in this exciting role including milling, turning and grinding as well as vertical and horizontal boring. You must be confident in reading and working from engineering drawings, using measuring equipment, including of Vernier callipers and micrometers. Understand the importance of quality products and fine tolerances. The role will provide key support in our drive to develop salvage capabilities and technology generating cost saving benefits.

      Key responsibilities include:

      • Conform to all Health, Safety and Environmental Procedures.

      • Operate CNC machines.

      • Inspect own work including visual of 1st off inspection

      • Use of measuring equipment; Micrometers/Vernier calipers.

      • Working with other areas to develop improvements and savings.

      • Carrying out operator performed maintenance and 5S activity as required.

      • Flexible approach to learning multiple processes in line with 3x3 training.

      • Follow Standard Work.

      • Perform Machine/Equipment daily inspection checks.

      • Conduct end of shift area clean downs. (5’S)

      Key Skills and Attributes:

      Essential

      • Previous experience in CNC operations

      • Development of tooling.

      • Assist with service engineers for machines.

      • Excellent planning and organisational skills

      • Ability to prioritise workload to meet changing needs within the team

      • High standards and attention to detail

      • Ability to produce cost effective solutions and savings.

      • Self-motivated and team player.

      • Ability to use own initiative and to work unsupervised.

      • Willingness and enthusiasm to succeed.

      • Safe working standards in line with procedures.

      Desirable

      • Supporting Manufacturing qualifications would advantageous.
