- Coordinates engineering activities with the County Engineer to provide the necessary technical support and assistance about related projects to the various stakeholder groups as needed.
- Researches available federal and state programs to secure funding for associated projects and activities.
- Liaises with the US Army Corps of Engineers and other state and federal agencies and represents the County in all dealings and represents the County on related projects involving those organizations.
- Advocates to elected officials, and preserves and enhances the waterways, beaches, and other shorelines in New Hanover County.
- Collaborates with the County Public Affairs Manager, coordinates County advocacy efforts and communications with federal and state elected and appointed officials and serves as a liaison with other groups sponsoring lobbying efforts.
- Serves as liaison with regulatory agencies and environmental organizations.
- Oversees the work of private shore protection and beach nourishment consultants employed by the County.
- Prepares and distributes public education and awareness materials relative to the waterways, shore protection and beach nourishment activities.
- Makes recommendations about waterways, shore protection and beach nourishment to stakeholders.
- Collects, maintains, and analyzes financial and performance data relative to the impact of the waterways, beaches and inlets to the New Hanover County tourism economy and based on the data, makes recommendations to the stakeholders.
- Attends meetings and enhances, promotes, and maintains the waterways and beaches such as North Carolina Beach Inlet and Waterway Association (NC BIWA), American Shore and Beach Preservation Association (ASBPA) meetings, and other beach commissions as appropriate.
- Ensures federal, state and county regulations and compliance are upheld.
- Travels to various meetings and locations as needed.
- Performs work with regular and predictable attendance consistently meeting the scheduling needs as required by the county.
- Performs work during emergency/disaster situations.
- Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.

- Bachelor ’ s Degree in Coastal, Civil, or Environmental Engineering, Coastal Sciences , Public Administration , or related field , and five (5 ) years of experience involving beach nourishment enhancement, promotion, and/ or maintenance ; or an equivalent combination of training and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the specific position as listed above.
- Valid North Carolina Driver License required by first date of employment with good driving record.

Compensation:
The hiring range for this position is $65,232 - $88,063.50 + a competitive benefits package. Salary will be determined based on qualifications.
