What to Expect (Job Responsibilities):
- Accurately assign and sequence ICD diagnostic and procedural codes and/or CPT procedural codes to inpatient and outpatient records
- Utilize a computerized encoding system to facilitate accurate coding and ensure compliance with coding guidelines
- Work cooperatively with medical staff and other healthcare professionals to obtain necessary documentation for quality coding
- Maintain established productivity requirements and achieve a 96% or greater accuracy rate in coding
- Communicate and advise on coding and DRG/APC assignment to ensure proper billing and claims submission
What is Required (Qualifications):
- Minimum educational requirement: Completion of a Health Information Management program with AHIMA approval status or coding program with AAPC
- 4+ years of recent experience coding in an acute hospital setting
- Certification in RHIA or RHIT and CCS or CIC is required
- Coding ability must be demonstrated via a skills assessment
- Strong knowledge of ICD and CPT/HCPCS classification systems
