What to Expect (Job Responsibilities):
- Assign accurate medical codes for diagnoses, procedures, and evaluation and management services for outpatient and inpatient encounters
- Review clinical progress notes for accuracy and completeness, obtaining any missing information as needed
- Submit CMS 1500 and UB04 claims daily and accurately enter necessary modifiers
- Assist billing specialists in resolving coding issues and denials
- Conduct internal chart audits for documentation and coding accuracy
What is Required (Qualifications):
- Minimum of two years of coding experience in a medical practice or health insurance organization
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Certified Professional Coder (CPC) or Certified Coding Specialist-Professional (CCS-P) Certification
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Proficient in electronic medical records and claims processing
How to Stand Out (Preferred Qualifications):
- Familiarity with coding guidelines and reimbursement reporting requirements
- Previous experience with internal chart audits and coding accuracy reviews
- Knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology relevant to coding
