      Job Description

      The Communication Studies program at NHCC is a primary component of all degree programs at the college. The faculty in the Communication Studies program are dedicated to helping all NHCC students achieve the speech and communication skills required of everyone in today’s diverse and dynamic society. Courses in public speaking and interpersonal communication make up the majority of offerings required of the department to serve the college’s needs. Other courses in the department’s curriculum may be offered as needed.

      Responsibilities:

      • Strong background and interest in teaching public speaking and interpersonal communication.

      • Ongoing preparation of course materials.

      • Engagement in contemporary teaching strategies (including online and hybrid modalities).

      • Assessment of student outcomes on an individual and department level.

      • Participation in discipline, division, and college matters through service on committees and attendance at regular meetings as well as continued professional development.

      • Flexibility to teach day, evening, or weekend sections.

      • Dedication to excellence in teaching and the desire to become part of a creative, vibrant, student-centered learning community.

      • Demonstrated professionalism as an active scholar by participating in departmental and campus-wide initiatives to enhance their discipline, promote interdisciplinary discourse and collaboration, and advance the college mission.

      Minimum Qualifications

      • Master's degree with a major in speech, speech communication, or communication, or communication studies or

      • Master's degree in any discipline/field with a minimum of 18 graduate semester credits (27 graduate quarter credits) in speech, speech communication, or communication, or communication studies.

      Preferred Qualifications

      • Earned doctorate degree in Communication or Communication Studies or a related field.

      • 3 – 5 years community college-level teaching experience.

      • Experience developing and/or conducting assessments of student learning.

      • Demonstrated ability to educate adult learners, students of color, students with disabilities, and international students.

      • Working knowledge of alternative best-practice instructional techniques and ability to incorporate a variety of delivery methods such as online education, web-enhanced classwork, etc.

      • Flexibility to teach daytime, evening, or weekend sections.
