Job Description

- Lead execution of Community Relations partnerships for AES Ohio including coordination of programming with various civic and community meetings and activities
- Assist with development of the Community Relations Plan, including giving strategy for the AES Ohio Foundation
- Align community presence and community engagement with business strategy to ensure focus on customer, smart grid, cleaner reliability and workforce of the future
- Build alliances with various community, civic, minority, and neighborhood groups
- Develop and execute Company volunteer programs, including AES Ohio Day in the Parks
- Manage United Way of Central of the Greater Dayton Area event logistics and committee planning
- Work in partnership with Marketing/Communications to create communications strategy for AES Ohio employees in order to engage in attendance/participation in events, volunteer activities, and United Way giving campaign
- Manage content and user success of AES Ohio volunteer tracking platform for employee engagement
- Coordinate AES Ohio information and community relations programs directed toward civic, minority, business, school, neighborhood and consumer organizations
- Respond to inquiries about Company operations or policies
- Plan, develop and arrange for AES Ohio displays and staffing at various community meetings, conventions and conferences including managing the AES Ohio Community Ambassador program
- Encourage, recruit and organize employees to participate in community activities
- Matrix report to the Executive Director of the AES Ohio Foundation
- Manage the day-to-day operations of the Foundation including:
- Completing annual compliance reporting - annual audit, tax reporting, check writing, grantee communications, budget, review monthly investment report, and board meetings
- Recommend a charitable contribution strategy that provides the greatest community benefit and demonstrates AES Ohio’s values in the service territory.
- Work with the Exec. Director and Board to manage and invest a $35 million corpus, $1.6 million grants budget for Ohio's 24 county service territory
- Review grant applications, meet and evaluate potential grantees.
- Follow up on the success of grantees and complete an annual report for the Board
- Represent the AES Ohio Foundation in the community at events and speaking engagements
- Manage the day-to-day operations of the Foundation including:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Public Relations or similar field from an accredited college or university
- >5 years relevant experience in external relations, marketing, or public affairs
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Strong platform skills for public speaking, professional presentations and community interactions
- Microsoft Office skills; virtual meeting platform(s) such as Zoom or Teams; experience with a CRM tool such as Salesforce
- Experience in working with large groups and taking a leadership role exemplifying above average team participation and team development skills
- Self-starter and able to work with a minimum of supervision
- Ability to balance priorities and manage development of multiple events
- Comfort working cross-functionally and developing consensus
- Natural leadership skills with the ability to take the lead and work successfully with people across internal functional groups
- Excellent communicator, both in writing and speaking
- Willingness to learn and gain experience in communications, marketing, local governmental processes, event planning, community organizing, and the renewable energy industry
- Global mindset and comfort with working with people from multiple different backgrounds and cultures

Position Scope: The Community Relations Manager will plan and execute logistics for community partnerships and company events. A key function will be developing and nurturing relationships with community members and civic, minority, business, neighborhood and consumer organizations, as well as schools and local units of government. This role will require a strong understanding of AES Ohio’s vision and strategy for customers and position on issues.
