SUMMARY

American Councils has designed and administered innovative programs that broaden individual perspectives, increase knowledge, and deepen understanding for almost 50 years across 130 countries.American Councils is expanding and will open offices in Tarawa, Kiribati and Suva, Fiji to implement Uaiakinan ao Uarokoan Toronibwaia I-Kiribati Activity (the “UUTI Activity”), part of the Mwakuri Aika Nakoraoi Ibukin Maeuraoimi Project (the “MANIM Project”). The UUTI Activity will provide youth skills camps and academic year scholarships for I-Kiribati high school students. Through their experience abroad, I-Kiribati students will receive language immersion and a cultural experience that shall build self-confidence and work readiness in ways that are unique to student exchange programs. Students will study for an academic year in the United States or attend an immersive 3-4 week camp in Fiji or the United States. Funding for this project is provided by the Millenium Challenge Corporation (MCC) as a part of the Kiribati Threshold Program.
The Compliance and Administration Officer (CAO) will report to the Senior Project Manager and will provide cross-cutting administrative support across all components of the UUTI Activity. The CAO will support the Senior Project Manager and staff in Fiji and Kiribati on program logistics and compliance. This position is based in Washington, DC and requires domestic travel for site visits and other program duties.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Support the Senior Project Manager in the technical design, implementation, and monitoring of UUTI activities with an emphasis on Sub-Activities 2 and 3 (U.S.-based activities);
• Work with staff in Washington DC, Fiji, and Kiribati to develop programmatic materials, communications, and updates;
• Work with staff in Washington DC, Fiji, and Kiribati on participant application review and evaluation;
• Review participant documents and track missing items;
• Work on student orientations;
• Support participant travel, including:
o Develop program travel timelines and travel training materials for participants and staff;
o Work with travel agency to ensure that tickets are issued correctly and in a timely manner;
• Assist with visa acquisition and ensure compliance with SEVIS and J-1 visa requirements;
• Contribute to vendor procurement and other financial processes
• Draft reporting to funder and respond to funder queries in a timely manner; and
• Performs other relevant duties as requested.Qualifications
• Able to work in the U.S. and travel domestically to conduct partner meetings, site visits and other duties related to implementation and on program support;
• BA in Education, TESOL, International Development, or a related field;
• At least two years of relevant experience, especially related to international development or TESOL
• Familiarity and experience working on J-1 exchange programs for high school students including visa and
• SEVIS requirements;
• Experience working with high-school age students;
• Superior organizational skills including proven success in tracking large amounts of data and information; and
• Professional fluency in English in both written and oral communication.
