      Job summary

      The successful candidate will join an enthusiastic team with a strong ethos of delivering a high-quality clinical services within the framework of meeting national targets. You will be expected to play his/her part in undergraduate/post graduate teaching, audit, clinical governance, leadership and quality improvement activities. Research is supported and encouraged within the department. There are excellent working relationships with other stakeholders including GPs and local acute trusts.

      The successful applicant will have consultant responsibility for upholding quality and clinical standards within the service, and for development of the service in conjunction with the existing consultant staff.

      The post holder will have access to an experienced mentor to help the individual achieve his/her full potential in all aspects of the job.

      Main duties of the job

      Applications are invited for a part-time consultant (flexible working considered) to join the Department of Sexual Health based at Aldershot Centre for Health. The post holder will be expected to have broad experience in all aspects of sexual health and the management of people living with HIV.

      The successful applicant will be expected to participate in the development of services as well as delivery of high-quality GU Medicine, complex contraception and HIV services including inpatients management, working with consultant colleagues and within multi-disciplinary teams.

      The consultant will be encouraged to contribute to audit, research, training, and undergraduate/post-graduate teaching programmes.

      The consultant will be expected to be flexible and to provide medical advice and support to nurse delivered clinics.

      There is a 1:3 on call rota for HIV/GU related emergencies and needle stick injuries.

      About us

      Solent NHS Trust Sexual Health Services provides GU Medicine, HIV Medicine, Sexual & Reproductive Health Services and Sexual Assault Referral Centre within Portsmouth, Southampton, Hampshire and the Isle of Wight. The principal clinics are based in Portsmouth, Southampton, Eastleigh, Basingstoke, Aldershot and Isle of Wight. There are several "spoke clinics" which provide integrated nurse led GU Medicine/Sexual & Reproductive Health Services. Clinics provide a mix of same day appointments and booked appointment clinics. There has been considerable investment in IT and clinics are linked via a Solent-wide electronic patient record.

      Aldershot is part of the North Locality which also includes Basingstoke, Winchester, Eastleigh and Andover (WEA). There is a HIV/GUM consultant based in Basingstoke and WEA who work as part of a team with Aldershot supporting the on-call rota and providing cross cover for leave and sickness.

      Qualifications

      Essential

      • Basic Medical qualification
      • MRCP or equivalent
      • Diploma in GU Medicine
      • Diploma in HIV Medicine
      • DFSRH
      • Entry on the GMC specialist register
      • CCT (or proposed CCT date must be within 6 months of interview)
      • Application/acknowledgement of evidence based practise
      • Evidence of management training

      Desirable

      • Letters of competence in IUD/IUS
      • Research/publications in peer reviewed journals
      • Sexually transmitted infection Foundation (STIF) registered trainer

      Experience

      Essential

      • Management of STI
      • Management of HIV/AIDS
      • Experience in genital dermatology
      • Experience of completed robust clinical audit
      • Experience in undergraduate/postgraduate medical education

      Desirable

      • Experience in psychosexual medicine
      • Experience of working within young people's services
