      What is the role?

      Applications are sought from suitably qualified applicants wishing to be considered for the role of Coordinator/Superintendent Recognition and Customs.

      The Recognition and Customs section within the AFP is the custodian for the AFP’s ceremonial and protocol efforts, recognition frameworks as well as its history. The team is led by a Band 9 Executive Level employee, with the support of a Band 8 Inspector.

      The Band 9 Coordinator/Superintendent is responsible for leading and effectively managing the resources, outcomes and performance of several teams, including the AFP Chaplains Network, AFP Museum, Honours and Awards, Ceremonial and Protocol, the AFP Reserves and Former Members team and the project team for the Museum of Australian Policing.

      The role is also responsible for leading the National Police Remembrance Day event on behalf of all Australian police agencies, which includes providing secretarial support to the National Police Memorial Coordination Committee.

      The position engages with a range of stakeholders, including the AFP Commissioner and Senior Executive, former members and their families, Government House, Prime Minister and Cabinet, State and Territory police as well as the Australian Defence Force.

      The section plays a critical role in celebrating the AFP and recognising the achievements of current and former members.

      The position has both a practical and strategic focus requiring the application of sound business principles in the leadership and management of resources to achieve AFP outcomes.

      Executive Level employees must also ensure the achievement of outcomes are in accordance with the regulatory framework, the AFP Code of Conduct and the AFP Governance Instruments.

      What will you do?

      The successful candidates will be responsible for leading and managing teams dedicated to delivering the Recognition and Customs function of the AFP. Specifically:

      • The coordination of formal recognition processes for the AFP, including the delivery of existing reform measures
      • Facilitation of the AFP Internal Awards Framework, awards granted under the Australian Honours System and awards conferred through other bodies
      • The coordination and execution of various events including funerals, attestations, national remembrance services, and associated requirements
      • Overseeing the training and coordination of the CAPO, as well as training (drill instruction) AFP police and Protective Service Officer recruits
      • Ensuring the history of the AFP and its members is captured and shared
      • Building on the AFP Reserve program and driving efforts to engage former members
      • Oversee the function of the AFP Chaplaincy Network in support of AFP appointees.

      Essential Requirements

      • A Negative Vetting 1 (Secret) security clearance or the ability to obtain one.
