Family Justice Services Division (FJSD) delivers programs and services that promote the timely and just resolution of family disputes within a comprehensive family justice system. Through community-based Justice Access Centres and Family Justice Centres, FJSD provides various in person and virtual programs and services, including initial needs determination, dispute resolution, Section 211 Family Law Act reports, and Parenting After Separation online courses.
The Justice Interviewer (JI) provides initial needs determination, information, referral, and other related services to clients seeking to access the justice system.
The JI elicits, verifies, and ascertains information from clients at the point of initial contact, including screening for the incidence of family violence or issues requiring urgent attention. Based on this information, the JI assists the client in assessing options and makes referrals to various services as needed.
This frontline position is responsible for limited case management offering either a brief service or brief counselling appropriate to the situation and may help to resolve a case or issue in its entirety. These services are essential in ensuring that citizens receive information they need to make informed decisions and resolve disputes quickly.
Job Requirements:
• A recognized undergraduate degree with a minimum of six months related* experience in a human service field (e.g., Indigenous organizations and community services, counselling, community service agencies, employment assistance, dispute resolution, court services, legal services); OR,
• A two-year diploma in a related field such as social sciences, paralegal, or dispute resolution with a minimum of two years related work or volunteer experience in a human service field (e.g., Indigenous organizations and community services, counselling, community service agencies, employment assistance, dispute resolution, court services, legal services); OR,
• An equivalent combination of education training, and experience may be considered.*Note: Experience may be gained in a professional/work, community or volunteer setting.
Preference may be given to candidates with one or more of the following:
• Six months or more experience working with families in a human service field.
• Completed one or both of the following online courses:
o Family Justice Service in British Columbia online course – FAMJ-1000 (formerly FAM190 or CORR606), Justice Institute of BC.
o Family Violence: Impact on Separation and Divorce online course – FAMJ-1002 (formerly FAM191 or CORR605), Justice Institute of BC.
• Applicants who self-identify as Indigenous (First Nations status or non-status, Inuit and/or Metis), with the required combination of education and experience.Provisos
• Required to successfully pass a BC Public Service Criminal Record Check (CRC) and a Criminal Records Review Act Check (CRRA).

About this Position:

This position is located in Surrey and has on-site work requirements.
Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work up to 2 days at home per week subject to an approved telework agreement.
