      MANDATE

      The Active Fixed Income (AFI) team is a Toronto-based center of excellence within BMO Global Asset Management (BMO GAM). The AFI team manages, evaluates and monitors approximately C$32 billion in assets using an active, fundamental, ESG-integrated investment approach.

      We are seeking a highly motivated Credit Analyst to work within our Active Fixed Income team responsible for managing $32 billion in fixed income assets including over $27 billion of credit holdings. The individual will be supporting the portfolio management team by performing in-depth research and relative value analysis to provide credit and industry recommendations. They will provide value-added investment recommendations within a coverage assignment. The person in this role has deep working knowledge of the corporate credit space and experience analyzing various elements of credit risks across sectors. The fundamental credit investment research conducted by the Analyst is an integral component of the portfolio construction process.

      Day-to-day Analyst responsibilities include industry data collection, financial statement analysis, financial modeling & forecasting, assessment of business & financial strategy, and monitoring market movements through daily meetings with portfolio managers, economists, and strategists.

      ACCOUNTABILITIES

      • Develop comprehensive sector, company, and security views based on fundamental analysis and using proprietary tools.
      • Independently conduct highly comprehensive credit research including individual credit analysis, industry, sector, structure, workout, and country analysis.
      • Conduct thorough analysis of corporate financial statements and assess relative value of security and company investment opportunities.
      • Attend company and industry conferences, interacting when appropriate with corporate borrower management teams as part of ongoing due diligence process.
      • Evaluate company fundamentals and industry trends, key operating metrics, business quality, and competitive position incorporating ESG fundamental factors in the overall analysis.
      • Provide timely buy/sell/hold recommendations to Portfolio Managers while taking into account total exposure, maturity, and relative value considerations.
      • Provide in-depth knowledge and maintain on-going dialogue with Portfolio Managers on investment strategy in a team environment.
      • Works closely with other team members including Equity colleagues as well as rating agency analysts and sell side research analysts, serving as a subject matter expert for specific Industrial sectors.
      • Provide guidance to others when appropriate as overall team member.
      • Prepare timely, written measurable analyses on individual credits, sectors, or events.
      • Concisely presents facts, analyses, conclusions, and recommendations.
      • Represents the research team in meetings with clients, consultants and prospects as required.

      KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

      • 1-5 years of experience as a fixed income credit analyst.
      • Prior experience in either investment grade or high yield.
      • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain financial models with historical and forward-looking projections as well as utilizes other analytical tools including Excel, Charles River & Bloomberg.
      • Well-developed oral and written communications skills.
      • Ability to multi-task and work independently in a rapidly changing environment
      • University degree required. Ideally in an area such as Finance, Business, Mathematics, or Statistics.
      • Knowledge of Python preferred.
      • Knowledge of ESG investment concepts preferred.
      • CFA strongly preferred

      WORKING CONDITIONS

      • Ability to work in a high stress environment, fast-paced and changing environment.
      • Numerous demands for resources that need to be prioritized within tight deadlines.
      • Requirement to be in the office 3 days of week.

      Salary :

      $76,300.00 - $142,100.00

      The above represents BMO Financial Group’s pay range and type.

      Salaries will vary based on factors such as location, skills, experience, education, and qualifications for the role, and may include a commission structure. Salaries for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on number of hours regularly worked. For commission roles, the salary listed above represents BMO Financial Group’s expected target for the first year in this position.

      BMO Financial Group’s total compensation package will vary based on the pay type of the position and may include performance-based incentives, discretionary bonuses, as well as other perks and rewards.
